Business Continuity Solutions Architect

Responsibilities:

• Lead Solutions Architect on a multiple DMX frame technical refresh. Strategy implemented consists of Open Replicator methodology to accommodate a total of 1200 servers to be migrated from existing DMX storage to new VMAX storage. Responsible for planning, design and execution of strategies. Key technical concepts include the switch work for zoning of ports for the migration as well as the zoning of ports for new host connectivity, creation of bin files for new thin devices on the VMAX, mapping and masking views of these devices, and script creation for the open replicator sessions. This migration is coordinated with the customer and the Confidential migration team to accommodate integration within the framework of day to day business and balanced with the need for migration to new storage frames
• Primary responsibility is to work with Technical Consultants from Confidential to create and implement major disaster recovery and business continuity solutions for several major financial institutions. Elements include planning and design relevant to SRDF based migrations of existing Open Systems (FBA) storage, as well as Mainframe (CKD) storage from Symmetrix and DMX frames from multiple locations into a single primary data center within the context of a Storage Area Network. Timefinder concepts are also implemented to preserve a gold copy of data during migrations. Host based copies on Aix and Solaris hosts are used to migrate data further to final destination on Clariion CX700 arrays
• Cost cutting and reduced overall spindle counts are the reasons for the migration, in addition to the data center consolidations
• The use of SRDF/S, SRDF/A, dynamic SRDF, Open Replicator and Timefinder are all integral to the success of several different kinds of technical refreshes and data migrations throughout the existing customer environments. Additional responsibilities include analysis and implementation of DMX/Symmetrix bin files, including disk analysis, lun layouts and sizes, ra group and port strategies, etc.
• Equally important is the ability to interface and strategize with the customer regarding the goals of the migration/refresh and working the migration/refresh into the framework of existing day to day production activities and ongoing political intricacies

UNIX Systems / Storage Admin

Responsibilities:

• Primary functions include planning, architecting and implementing solutions for the host based migration of data from previously attached raid-1 devices to new raid-5 devices
• This project is being performed at a large scale financial institution based in the Greater New York area. Critical components include in depth knowledge and understanding of the Sun Microsystems Solaris operating system with a particular focus on storage and Host Bus Adapters (Including JNI, Emulex and QLogic), as well as an in depth understanding and application of Veritas Volume Manager and Veritas Cluster Server
• An advanced understanding of Confidential Symmetrix arrays and DMX arrays and their administration in a SAN environment is also required as it is critical to the overall execution of the project
• Understanding and application of business continuity concepts (via Symcli and ECC) including SRDF (Symmetrix Remote Data Facility), SRDF/A (Asynchronous), Timefinder, BCV (Business Continuity Volumes) and STAR Technology (Symmetrix Triangulated Asynchronous Replication) are also integral components towards the successful completion of this project
