Sr. Systems Engineer
- I am currently working on a technology refresh project that involves identifying end of life EOL hardware/software for both patch management software and network monitoring tools running on Windows and Red Hat Linux Operating Systems . I am currently evaluating Microsoft System Center 2012 R2 Configuration Manager for patch deployment and remote systems management and monitoring. This effort includes developing a technical design and solution recommendations on how to best modernize and consolidate IT systems, management tools and line-of-business applications at the US Customs and Border Protection with minimal disruption or downtime.
- I did an assessment/gap analysis and developed an Enterprise Architecture EA for enterprise application and endpoint virtualization project for a prominent US financial institution. I identified and documented the business and the technical drivers for the project. The recommended solution will be the organization's IT data center modernization baseline and roadmap for the next 10 years.
- I performed cloud computing assessment and feasibility study for a federal government client. Based on the findings and industry best practices, I wrote a white paper outlining the cost/benefits of going with private cloud as opposed to on premise data center modernization effort.
- Working on the next generation NOAA National Weather Service Telecommunication Gateway NWSTG - the centerpiece of the NWS weather data acquisition and dissemination in the continental US and WMO's Global Telecommunication System, I was a core team member in the data gathering and analysis effort that identified and documented customer and technical drivers for the data center modernization effort. Federal, state and local first responders / emergency managers as well as the World Meteorological Organization WMO interface with the NWSTG over 300 telecommunications links to access and utilize weather data. The tech refresh effort included developing an Implementation Plan and Concept of Operations CONOPs for the future leaning NWS Telecommunication Gateway. For this effort, I gathered and analyzed data to identify the current As-Is hardware and software that had reached end of life EOL or was nearing EOL. I was responsible for organizing the data, and addressing customer technical questions and inquiries. I provided various hardware and software alternative solutions for the To-Be environment. In addition, I created a Bill of Materials BoM worth approximately 5 million dollars for the target To-Be environment. This included the recommendation of additional hardware, the consolidation of existing hardware/software using VMware ESXi virtualization software, technical training for support staff, and current process and procedural improvement recommendations to eliminate unnecessary redundancy.
- I worked with National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration NOAA National Centers for Environmental Prediction NCEP government contacts to identify LAN hardware requirements for each center to support expected increased in data rates from the next generation weather satellite - Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite - R Series GOES-R . I facilitated biweekly Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System AWIPS LAN hardware upgrade planning meetings. I performed Analysis of Alternatives AoA for the NWS data center modernization effort and provided recommendations to management.

Active Directory Architect
At the Defense Information Systems Agency DISA I deployed Microsoft Windows 2008 Active Directory, and Exchange 2010 to meet functional and technical requirements gathered during the requirements gathering phase. This effort involved the design and implementation of a total of 12 Exchange 2010 Servers for Client Access Server, Hub Transport, and Email Mailbox server roles. Configuration of the mailbox servers was done as a cluster to provide a highly available environment for the Database Availability Group. This solution was deployed using Microsoft Hyper-V 2008 hypervisor. It led to consolidation of physical Exchange server installation from 60 to only 12 physical servers on Hyper-v as virtual instances, which reduced server hardware footprint in the data center by more than 70 .

At the Department of Health and Human Services DHHS , I led the design, testing and the implementation of Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows Active Directory. I wrote how to and as-is documents on DNS, DHCP and WINS configuration based on industry best practices. I gathered, analyzed and documented customer functional and technical requirements for a collaboration solution. Based on customer requirements gathered, I developed a solution based on Microsoft SharePoint 2007 running on VMware virtual infrastructure with Storage Area Network on EMC hardware platform. I tested, implemented and documented the collaboration and data sharing solution based on Microsoft SharePoint Server 2007, and SQL Server 2005 back-end with Microsoft Internet Information Server front-end on the DHHS/ ITO network.
