Big Data System Capability Overview
- The Big Data Solution system provides Risk Analysis and Management, Data Analytics and Research capabilities with access to 100 Terabytes and growing of broad array of U.S. consumer credit data, including credit cards, auto loans, student loans, and mortgages. RADAR's comprehensive Big Data analytics architecture leverages Pivotal Greenplum Database and Pivotal Hadoop allows users to generate and view data by loan status, geography, demographics, or time periods. The system also provides varied customization of the views of data, including the ability to develop maps or charts for fast and meaningful analysis. The system provides ability to dig deeper into the data allowing researchers to easily spot patterns or trends, and providing a better understanding of a community's or a region's credit health.
- RADAR also provides security evaluation capability by integrating the information contained in the RADAR Greenplum database with risk models and securities evaluation software. In addition, the security evaluation capability allows examiners access to modeling tools to create benchmarks against which to compare banks' own valuations of the securities they hold in their portfolios. This way, examiners can help bank management refine their securities valuation process to better estimate credit risk and accurately reflect financials.
Big Data System Technology Architecture Overview
- The RADAR system using Greenplum 3.0 was initially deployed in late 2008 as a test pilot system to address performance issue of SQL Server database with growing data volume. With positive outcome, the Greenplum system was rolled out to larger user base across the organization and plans were made to scale up the system to store additional credit data for analytical and research purpose.
- Overtime, with escalating users' needs, the RADAR big data architecture has evolved to provide an integrated analytics environment for both structure and unstructured data. At present RADAR's data warehousing component is built using Greenplum Database 4.2, a shared-nothing Massively Parallel Processing MPP architecture, leveraging open source PostgreSQL database. To ease burden of inactive data in the Greenplum MPP database, the RADAR system uses Pivotal HD product to offload the inactive data from Greenplum database for ad-hoc user queries, archiving and retention purposes. The Pivotal HD product, a supported Hadoop Distributed File System HDFS with HBase, ZooKeeper, Hive, and Pig tools is also to manage unstructured data storage.
- A critical product, Greenplum Data Computing Appliance DCA was deployed to incorporate extensibility in the architecture. Greenplum DCA integrates Greenplum database, Pivotal HD, Data Loading ETL and third party business intelligence platforms and provide extensibility for future needs such as additional storage management.
- With Greenplum Database 4.2 upgrade, the Greenplum PerfMon console was replaced with new web-based Greenplum Command Center with new features for Greenplum administrators such as the ability to start, stop and initialize databases on the fly, recover and rebalance database mirrors, and search, prioritize, or cancel a query.
