Responsibilities:

  • A new data center was built in Bastrop and Taylor. me designed and wrote the technical specifications for the large hardware for both data centers. me performed many of the technical tasks required for this transition.
  • The main task me performed during the migration was AIX Administrator. The primary task was setting up new servers, LPARS, VIO and NIM. After the new frames were established me migrated AIX LPARS from the old IBM Frames and storage to the new IBM frames and storage. This was done with the minimum of down time. me performed migrations for AIX OS and swap, data (mostly Oracle), and applications. The most common method for AIX and small data sets was with migratepv. With the larger data drives, clones were replicated by storage and new LUNS/PVID’s were presented and mounted.
  • Thou out this whole time, me continued to explain and train personnel so they could continue to grow and take advantage of the resources dat were provided. me also worked closely with the Oracle DBA’s not only to resolve performance issues but to perform emergency restorations of massive databases. Helped create solutions to resolve and prevent future data corruption issues.
  • Worked on NERC,FERC and SAS70 documentation and created detailed system documentations with VISIO diagrams detailing the placement of applications and database as well as complete physical system configurations. Was on call 7x24.
  • Analyzed current system and near growth requirements for UNIX based systems. Reviewed the various solutions from the vendors dat could provide a viable solution. Encouraged team members to participate and express their opinions and concerns. Help write the RFP and performed technical review of responses. When the equipment arrived, me worked with IBM and installed and set up the servers, installed the VIO/LPARS, worked with Data Center Personnel, Networking, Storage, Security, Windows, Oracle DBAs and others to migrate to the new platform. This was a large effort and involved many people. me worked with the Network team to upgrade the backbone of the network to 10 gig to support the needs of the servers. On call 7x24.
  • Upgraded and migrated the Grid Control application to newTru64 Alpha Server clusters and HP SAN storage. Created programs to automatically synchronize the power grid control information between data centers. Resolved performance issues with application and Oracle databases. Reduced data center fail-over for key power grid application from 45 minutes to 15 minutes. Eliminated and automated many of the manual steps, reducing human error and reducing down time. Was responsible for the system administration, maintenance, software and hardware upgrades and patching of the Texas Electric Power Grid control systems at two data center locations. On call 7x24.
  • me was hired in to run their Houston Data Center operations. They had about 40 SUN servers running their custom web application backed by Siteminder, Tibco and Oracle. The Houston team members were responsible for supporting production dat was hosted at L3. The development datacenter and main office was located in San Jose CA. My routine was to spend 2 weeks in Houston, tan 2 weeks in California. While in California me would work with the different departments such as the support center, development groups and the business sections and listen to their concerns. me tan took dat information back to Houston and implemented what could be done to address those concerns or improvements. While me was their, the datacenter grew by about 300%. me implemented several SUN SAN solutions, backup and recovery as well as standby servers. Was on call 7x24.
