• Requirement: EDS Corporate Information Systems needed a fast and reliable interface to send data from the mainframe systems to the Client/Server applications.
• Solution: Sybase multi-platform middleware product that had a piece on MVS/CICS and another piece on a Wintel-based server acting as a gateway.
• Completed the following tasks:
• Reviewed requirements, planned, proposed solution, installed and implemented the configuration on the mainframe and MS Windows server. Provided test, troubleshooting and implementation support for many of the legacy applications that took advantage of this gateway. Many of the functions provided by the Corporate Administration System CAS had a smooth and successful transition from the mainframe model into the Client/Server model due to the implementation of this data gateway.
• Requirement: EDS Payroll had to migrate COBOL source code into a Client/Server environment in a short period of time because of resource and licensing constraints.
• Solution: MS Windows server-based IBM VisualAge providing a complete application development system, transparent connectivity between MVS/CICS and Client/Server TCP/IP LAN-based applications using an IBM LU6.2 TCP/IP middleware component.
• Completed the following tasks:
• Similar processes as described above for the Sybase Gateway solution were completed.
• In addition to those tasks, development workstations had to be setup and configured for each of the coders, performed training tasks for the coders teaching them about the middleware, understanding the different topologies and configurations.
