Senior Instrumentation and Control Systems Engineer

Responsibilities:

  • I am presently employed with the PPL Generation Technical Services Group based in Allentown, PA. My role at PPL is to provide technical support as lead I&C engineer for major capital projects involving the company’s power generation assets in eastern Pennsylvania.
  • My principal responsibility is to provide engineering administration and supervision for my projects, including instrument vendors, engineering consultants and system integration subcontractors, whom we use to implement our instrumentation and control system requirements.
  • My involvement is integral to every stage of system development from initial concepts through detailed design, installation, start up and process optimization. Projects at PPL have included: dry sorbent injection systems for SO3 emissions reduction, a new waste water plant, instrumentation upgrades on feed water heat exchangers and fabric filters, coal and natural gas co - firing upgrades and mitigation of mercury discharge from plant flue gases.
  • I directed a four man I&C technician crew during emergency repairs to instrumentation and associated wiring damaged as a result of a fire, which shut down a 780 megawatt generation facility. My tasks required 13 hour shifts overnight for an extended period resulting in the unit being successfully diagnosed, repaired, tested and returned to service in 28 days.

Senior Instrumentation and Controls Engineer

Responsibilities:

  • My position required leadership, supervision and technical direction, which I provided for project I&C engineering efforts. I furnished technical management for all aspects of field instrumentation and DCS design required to support the company’s product line featuring air quality process equipment used in the electric power generation industry.
  • I served as the lead I&C engineer on the Minnesota Power, Boswell Energy Center AQCS project, which involved provision of an FGD scrubber and SCR reactor to assure compliance with SOx and NOx emissions limits in the flue gas discharge of a large, utility boiler.
  • I was the chief architect behind the receipt of a $95,000 change order related to the central emissions monitoring system on that contract.
