Cloud and Infrastructure Architect/Engineer

Responsibilities:

  • Successful design, planning and execution of an EMC Storage migration, Active Directory Domain migration, Exchange 2003 to 2007 migration and a VMware consolidation
  • Successfully collapsed two existing Windows 2003 Active Directory domains into a single Windows 2008 Active Directory domain. I did this using Microsoft and Quest tools. This domain migration was also used as an opportunity to document all applications.
  • Successfully deployed an Exchange 2007 infrastructure in the new Windows 2008 domain and once the 2003 domains were migrated with Exchange 2003, the mailboxes were moved to the Exchange 2007 environment.
  • All Exchange 2003 servers were then decommissioned. Exchange 2007 Continuous Data Replication was used, rather than EMC MirrorView
  • Successfully planned and executed a VMware migration from an existing IBM Blade infrastructure that was inherited with an acquisition, to an existing HP Blade C Series VMware infrastructure with HP Virtual Connect. This was performed using built-in VMware technologies’ such as VMotion and VMotion Storage. It was required to use this opportunity to match all ESX 3.5 versions and VM Tools versions. An upgrade to vSphere was considered and a POC performed, but not chosen due to application compatibility concerns. A VCB gateway was deployed to move VM backup jobs off the VERITAS agents.
  • Successfully worked with EMC to migrate data and hosts from a CX3-700 to a CX4-480, along with migrating from Celerra NS-G2 to Celerra NS-G8 and decommissioning a Centera.
  • Extensive provisioning experience with EMC Navisphere, SnapView, MirrorView, PowerPath, Control Workstations and so on. Other experience with third-party tools such as Confidential /VERITAS Storage Foundation, Robo-Copy, Linux and Windows DFS, Linux and Windows built-in storage management consoles and other data mover tools.
  • Very experienced with proper storage provisioning using Fibre Channel, iSCSI and NFS protocols and multipath agents/drivers.
  • Very experienced with Brocade and Cisco switches for zoning, as well as popular HBA adapters, etc.
  • I provided continuous strategy and direction to EIG management to help pave a path for future growth and to minimize the pain when acquiring future companies.

Cloud and Infrastructure Architect/Engineer

Responsibilities:

  • Successfully executed a massive infrastructure design operation to reduce datacenter power consumption and implement a disaster recovery solution. My role in this operation was to deploy a VMware VI3 infrastructure and work with the technology staff to migrate as many physical servers to virtual as possible.
  • Secondary responsibilities were to work with other in-house vendors to clean up an existing EMC CX3-700, re-allocate the use of a DMX4 and deploy a NetAPP FAS3100. I was to assist by recommending the best storage solution for the VMware environment. I was a key player to the Disaster Recovery Project Team by providing detailed technical documentation and understanding to how each application should be provisioned for DR.
  • I successfully re-deployed VMware ESX 3.5 on HP Blade C7000 Chassis with BL580s. I then retired an existing Dell 2900 VI3 infrastructure that was a POC prior. HP Rapid Deployment and Virtual Connect were used for this task.
  • Extensive work with VMware to introduce the option of vSphere. A lab was created for early testing, but no production use due to the “newness” of 4.0 and the hassle of re-certifying applications that had recently been certified for 3.5.
  • I successfully coordinated smaller VI3 infrastructure deployments at remote locations that had layered network and SAN storage capabilities. These locations would be potential DR sites determined by application requirements. Working with Meditech and Perot Systems, isolated VI3 environments were deployed specifically for the Meditech software due to strict governance laws and other requirements, such as HIPPA.
  • Working with Confidential I.T. staff, we successfully migrated over 500 physical servers to virtual machines using PlateSpin and P2V Enterprise.
  • I utilized my team player strengths to work with the Storage Architect and Storage Team to overcome challenges with capacity planning and performance problems for existing applications and future application deployments. This involved several weeks of meeting with EMC and NetApp to determine where applications best belonged and to compare both vendors’ storage technologies. This was used to create the critical application data tiers.
  • I provided several Visio and PowerPoint presentations to assist the disaster recovery teams ability to determine how and where to deploy application DR provisioning. I was able to save over 100K in cost by identifying DR capability that already existed and leveraging more of the VMware environment. VMware SRM was bought in later to provide an additional layer of site-to-site DR.
  • I also saved over 32,000 watts of power by migrating 60 Citrix Presentation Servers to VMware, which allowed 60 Dell Blades to be decommissioned. Xen Server was considered for virtualizing the Presentation Servers, but it was later decided to standardize on one virtual platform.
