SUMMARY
- Responsible for the overall design of enterprise Windows technology solutions with a primary expertise in Windows Server Operating Systems, Active Directory, and related technologies.
- Work under the direction of the responsible Sr. IT Manager and in collaboration with the responsible IT Architecture team to define and document strategy, standards and procedures for Windows environments.
- Collaborate with Architectural team members to ensure that the design of physical and virtual solutions meet business and technology objectives, including Disaster Recovery requirements.
- Support the complete Design/Build/Run aspects of an outsourced managed services model for Windows services.
- Research and understand functional requirements for solutions, including performance criteria, target environments, existing and new technologies and tools to ensure that solutions appropriately meets customer demands.
- Work closely with other technical towers to ensure proposed solutions meet minimum build, support and run requirements, including Network, Storage, Security, Data Center Hardware, Application, and Database Administration teams.
- Provide recommendations on technical refresh and life cycle planning for Windows technologies and solutions, including overall business and technology risks and opportunities.
- Design physical and virtual solutions that ensure optimal use of server resources and software licenses. Incorporate methods and practices that leverage capping and charge/show back capability, avoidance of workload affinity with specific servers, improved availability via workload migration, and enable upgrades and patching to be able to be performed live or with minimal downtime.
- Attend integrated project team meetings with internal partners and customers to learn of new requirements, provide technical expertise, respond to task assignments, and provide status updates.
- Work with project managers and senior management to develop project plans.
- Participate in product design meetings to ensure that proposed designs meet published build standards and maximize reliability, availability and serviceability.
- Prepare and lead briefings and updates on project and task status. Design and prepare technical reports and related documentation as appropriate.
- Translate project requirements into scope definitions and engineering plans aligned to defined standards that include cost estimates and cost/benefit analysis. Prepare purchase requests and configuration management documentation.
- Work closely with managed service providers and other technical leads to ensure pipeline services, estimates, and assets are delivered on time to meet required project deliverables.
- Facilitate weekly server/instance delivery review meetings with the outsourced service provider. Provide overview reporting to project teams for in - scope service delivery timelines.
- Author and maintain required process and procedural documentation used by in-house and outsourced service delivery team partners to operate and maintain Windows hardware, OS and supporting software environments.
- Lead outsourced and in-house technical team partners to adhere to documented standards and best practices and to implement solutions.
- Perform gap analysis of existing documented procedures against current or desired process and recommend improvements.
- Evaluate technical documentation of product sub-systems for accuracy and ease of use.
- Build Windows environments, ensuring all security requirements are met, and all servers/systems/software/hardware have been tested to meet standards
- Supply advanced knowledge of performing quality control and quality assurance processes. Ensure adherence of testing and installation procedures against these processes and resolve deviations with appropriate resources.
- Collaborate with required teams to implement into production on schedule and according to implementation plan.
- Collaborate with technical support teams to conduct ongoing environment monitoring and performance assessments to ensure systems are meeting required operating level agreements and service level agreements.
- Assist technical support teams to resolve customer concerns, responds to suggestions for improvements and enhancements to ensure customer satisfaction with product in a timely fashion.
- Work closely with technical support staff to understand problems as appropriate and to ensure they are resolved in a timely manner.
- Provide on-call escalated technical support for the resolution of service impacting incidents unresolvable by lower-level support teams following standardized processes.
- Serve as backup escalated technical support for primary Windows team members in support of resolution of service impacting incidents
- Consult with Architectural resources and coordinate with technical support resources to perform debugging and troubleshooting of issues. Provide bug verification, release testing and beta support for assigned products. Research and resolve problems discovered by quality analysis, vendor product support or OD users.
- Provide Root Cause Analysis for all Windows issues, and make corresponding recommendations to remediate.
- Responsible for technical peer review for proposed Windows system changes
- Attend and represent Windows changes in regularly scheduled CAB (Change Approval Board) meetings.
- Provide technical support and engineering for the Windows and Active Directory infrastructures supplying continuity within inter-corporate business Service Level Availability (SLA) agreements.
- Supply strong planning, process improvement and quality measurement skills with a focus on delivering operational efficiencies, increasing shareholder value and corporate financial strength.
- Work with Technology Architects to support roadmap directives, assist in developing plans for Windows Refresh initiatives and global Active Directory design. Define and maintain global policies\procedures and document the global service support model.
- Maintain present documentation and provide support regarding Server Standards\Hardening, Server Acquisition\Procurement, Server Compliance and Disaster Recovery for the Wintel and Active Directory environments.
- Review daily\weekly\monthly reports of Wintel and Active Directory capacity, performance and availability metrics supplying solutions towards overall efficiency.
- Provide on-call support for the Wintel and Active Directory environments.
- Minimum 8+ years’ experience with Microsoft’s Windows Server OS, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, IIS, Server Virtualization and Networking technologies.
- MCSE certification required.
- Proven track record of accurate troubleshooting skills. Must demonstrate the initiative and provide the ability to analyze\troubleshoot server OS\HW\Virtualization\network and Active Directory related issues to determine the appropriate course of action.
- Proven track record in Microsoft Windows Server OS and Active Directory engineering with deliver on large-scale national and global initiatives. Should have design and architecture experience in both these areas.
- Proven track record in Microsoft or 3rd party tools used for migrations.
- Proven track record with applications authenticating to Active Directory and Active Directory delegation.
- Proven track record in monitoring and troubleshooting Active Directory replication, troubleshooting FRS and creating\troubleshooting Group policies.
- Proven track record in configuring and troubleshooting DNS.
- Proven track record to perform a disaster recovery of Wintel and Active Directory environments.
- Server Hardware knowledge with HP Servers including blade experience.
- Server Virtualization (VMWare) experience required.
- Experience with Networking products and knowledge of Content Switch Load balancing a plus. Knowledge of TCP\IP, Subnetting, Networking Protocols.
- Proven track record in areas of confidentiality and security. Ability to earn trust by keeping confidences, being direct and honest.
