PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Confidential
Network Operations Specialist
Environment: Working along side Network Engineering in the application of different Network Designs in a production environment.
Responsibilities:
- Acting as team leader, my group plays a vital role in Confidential ’s ongoing, Tele2 client migration strategy. To date, we have facilitated the migration of more than 700,000 customers from Tele2 onto Confidential ’s core network, including various network services such as DNS, Radius and Tacacs.
- Due to my intimate knowledge of Tele2’s core infrastructure, I was selected to be directly involved with certain phases of the migration strategy, specifically Tele2’s Autonomous System Number swap, followed by the rerouting of 40 Gb of customer Internet traffic over three distinct ADSL services from one backbone provider to another.
- Implementation of work orders assigned by our Network Engineering division onto a production environment. Work orders range from Cisco IOS software upgrades, installation of new network line cards or replacing faulty supervisor cards, expansion of core network elements such as the installation of a new Provider Edge router within Confidential ’s MPLS VPN domain, configuring new Customer VRF’s or migrating existing VRF’s to a new network element, modifying access-lists/prefix-lists or QoS configurations.
- Using monitoring tools to track network behavioral patterns and anomalies, responsible for acknowledging discrepancies and responding to NOC inquires.
- Coordinate network interventions with Field Technicians during network outages in remote locations and be responsible for troubleshooting Cisco TAC Cases through WebEx sessions with a dedicated Cisco assigned Engineer if the outage happens to be more severe than expected.

Environment: Network Design and Implementation, Maintenance and Operation
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the maintenance, operation and expansion of Tele2 Italia’s national core network and its accompanying ADSL services which were provided to over 800,000 customers (equivalent to 40Gb of internet traffic).
- Ensured routing reachability towards all network elements - access, distribution and core - as well as provision new elements for network expansion such as DSLAM, Metro Switches and Core Routers.
- Core maintenance activities included, software and hardware upgrades, line card installations or replacements, IOS configuration cleansing.
- Traffic engineering from an IP level (ISIS) to determine best path options for Internet reachability from within the Autonomous System. (MPLS does not apply to the Tele2 network).
- Monitoring network performance through weekly KPI reports, I would determine any anomaly in the network based on customer inquires.
- Team Leader and point of for all network escalation issues, I would hold weekly team meetings to discuss past network activity issues and collaborate with team members to find resolutions to persistent issues. The meetings were also used to track the progress of present and future projects.
- Participate in vendor negotiations and establish contractual service level agreements (SLA).
- Trainer for new hires, I presented the Tele2 network and its adopted networking philosophy from a physical and logical perspective, which gave the new candidate a candid feel for the network.
- Using monitoring tools to track network behavioral patterns and anomalies, responsible for acknowledging discrepancies and responding to NOC inquires.
- Emergency response team during network downtimes, 1 week on call rotation per month and point of for Network escalations.
