I served from 06/2013 until 10/2014 as a System Administrator subcontractor for Northrop Grumman in a tier two help desk environment. I was providing technical network support for FBCB2/BFT, a Linux-based worldwide satellite network. This position involved performance of around-the-clock monitoring of internet utilities and working for proactive problem identification and resolution. Support for upgrades of hardware, operation, monitoring, repair, and analyzing of network performance problems using management procedures, checklists, and software tools to provide exceptional technical support resulting in customer satisfaction and appreciation for our customer support center and also coordination of activities with redundant sites worldwide. Additionally, as of 11/2013, we supported the Tactical Information Ground Reporting TIGR system, a Google Earth-based situational awareness tool for troops in the field designed to provide them with a tactical advantage over the enemy. The Linux that I used on a daily basis consisted of archiving files, copying and moving from one directory to others utilizing cp and mv, using scp to move files from one server to another, and running/performing various backup functions. As files were frequently moved from one domain to the other, it was critical that security rules and protocols are followed closely. A great deal of attention and care went into making certain that sensitive and classified information was protected and handled properly maintaining operational security. I maintained several databases across multiple domains and frequently edited each of them on a regular basis using MYSQL. Additionally, TCP dumps were performed on a regular basis to verify functionality of and communication between servers. Once output and communication between servers can be verified, proprietary programs utilize the output to support the missions of soldiers using the FBCB2 equipment in the field. Commands I use on a daily basis the most often are cp, mv, scp, taillog-f, tcp dump, and various SQL commands to query and edit databases.
