PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

Confidential

Senior SAN/NAS Storage and Backup Consultant

Responsibilities:

  • I volunteered to assume the role of the Storage and Backup Team's Service Now ticketing system's Queue Manager where I route all of our team's tickets according to coworker skill sets and priority and actively manage the queue to ensure that we meet our SLA requirements
  • Improved all SLA metrics for the Storage and Backup Team's Service Now Change and break/fix related tickets by and educating all team members regarding the proper use of Service Now as well as ticket documentation and SLA requirements and auditing all tickets for compliance
  • As a new Veritas NetBackup Administrator I resolved many longstanding failed backups by taking the initiative to work with the Wintel, UNIX, and Network teams, along with the vendor Veritas, to troubleshoot failures by using utilities and extensive troubleshooting and testing to isolate the reasons for the failures. As a result of this effort, our team began meeting the monthly SLA backup objective for the first time in over 6 months. We are now completing more than 10,000 backup jobs overnight. Usually there are no backup jobs running at 8:00AM. Prior to my efforts, there would be up to 25 jobs still running in the morning hours.
  • Recognized by Senior Management for my aggressive failed backup remediation efforts, and also for some VNX LUN migrations that I performed for a customer who stated that I demonstrated extreme professionalism, customer service, and technical skills and said I was a pleasure to work with.
  • Perform storage provisioning on NetApp FAS 8000s, Pure Storage M20, EMC VMAX, EMC VNX 7500s and present LUNs to VMWare, Win2K12, LINUX, AIX, Solaris and UNIX hosts in both stand alone and clustered configurations.
  • Resolve SAN related escalations, write Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) pertaining to Backup and Storage best practices, resolve all tickets in accordance with change management, documentation and break/fix procedures while meeting aggressive SLAs.
  • Train other team members in using the Service Now ticketing system and how to properly document their tickets in accordance with contractual requirements, SLAs, and customer and management expectations. Also demonstrated for them how to use filters and run reports in Service Now.
  • Manage a Veritas NetBackup 7.5 backup infrastructure that includes running more than 10,000 backup jobs on a nightly basis in the Production and Development environments that must be completed by 7:00AM the next day to meet SLAs.
  • Duplicate all backup jobs to Data Domain frames and vault the 3rd copy to tape.
  • Perform zoning at the CLI and GUI using Brocade Network Advisor in a SAN fabric comprised of Brocade switches.
  • Remediated performance issues by identifying 35TBs of data on our Development NetApp filers that we were able to reclaim given the age of the data involved. Doing so brought the corresponding aggregate utilization from 98% down to less than 70% and increased performance significantly.
  • Migrated VMware LUNs from Netapp frames to VNX 7500 to remediate NetApp performance issues that was causing latency to exceed 600ms for extended periods of time.

Senior Storage Consultant

Responsibilities:

  • With no prior EMC TimeFinder support experience found within the SAN Team at BCBS and a customer DR requirement to create and test TimeFinder clones with the customer Database Team, I volunteered for the effort, enlightened myself with TimeFinder and successfully created the clones and carried out the entire test. As a result, BCBS didn't have to pay an EMC Consultant to come in and perform the work.
  • Provision storage from and support the break/fix and run/maintain of approximately 2.3PB of storage residing on the following hardware; EMC VMAX 20K, EMC VNX 5100 (Block), IBM Storwise 7000,IBM DS3500, IBM DS5100, Hitachi VSP G1000 and Hitachi AMS2500, and present LUNs to VMWare, Win2K3, Win2K8, LINUX, AIX, zLinux, Solaris and UNIX hosts in both stand alone and clustered configurations.
  • Use Cisco Prime Data Center Network manager to perform zoning and SAN fabric administration in support of 5 separate SAN fabrics that include supporting government contracts including Medicare and Tricare.
  • Mentor, train, and provide direction to Junior Storage Administrators, migrate LUNs, and resolve performance related issues.
  • Resolve SAN related escalations, write SOPs, and resolve all tickets in accordance with change management procedures and related SLAs.
  • Update code on SAN fabric switches, SAN arrays, replace fabric switches, install line cards, and provide all necessary SAN hardware support that includes the patching of SAN hardware and scheduling the same with vendors where required.
  • Immediately upon joining the Blue Cross team I was tasked with the completion of a SAN Fabric refresh project that involved the collapsing of a fabric from multiple core-edge switches to two Cisco 9710 cores. I doubled the number of ports being moved weekly and closed out a long overdue project.

Storage Team Lead

Responsibilities:

  • As the Storage Team Lead, I managed a global team of 10 Storage Administrators, and oversaw the break\fix and run\maintain of 2.7PB of configured Fiber Channel SAN attached storage in an enterprise environment. Supported SAN/NAS infrastructure was accessed from multiple countries and was located in 3 data centers with various storage replication technologies replicating data to a DR site. Support was executed in accordance with both Confidential and Cargill standards to ensure that all Confidential and Cargill’s processes are adhered to in support of account SLAs (Service Level Agreements) in a complex, demanding and customer eccentric environment. SAN storage was presented to stand alone and clustered configurations including approximately 3,500 VMWare ESX, Win2K3, Win2K8, LINUX, AIX,iSeries and UNIX hosts.
  • I was the only member on the team who possessed the necessary skills to support all of the hardware on the SAN, as was solely responsible for supporting Celerra given its criticality to the Cargill environment and never missed an SLA 5 years.
  • Participated in the Manager’s on-call rotation which included the handling and dispatching escalations for all Lines of Service (LOS), as well as being the end-to-end resolver of SRTs (Service Resolution Teams) and MIs (Major Incidents). I documented and communicated the details of the same to account and client management. Wrote up and submitted to Confidential and Cargill Management all Storage related RCAs (Root Cause Analysis).
  • Resolved all client level (end user and management) escalations and took the necessary actions to implement new processes as needed to ensure that account SLA metrics were met and to minimize human error.
  • Mentored and trained Junior Storage Administrators. I personally managed all Celerra migrations and worked directly with the EMC Celerra Architect to migrate all data from the old to new Celerra frames, and my attention to detail prevented an outage that would have occurred at cutover.
  • I performed many Celerra file system migrations for various application teams in support of cutting over from old to new applications with a100% success rate in all migration efforts.
  • I was openly commended by managers from Cargill (the client) and Confidential for my Celerra skills and efforts as my quick-thinking averted major Celerra outages on multiple occasions that would have impacted Cargill operations in multiple countries had I not quickly resolved the issues. In one case, a Senior Cargill Manager called me personally to thank me for my efforts.
