Senior Staff Engineer erience

Responsibilities:
- Technical team lead team of 5 FPGA designers to enhance existing LTE and WiMAX 802.16 phy layer designs. The designs included CFR, DPD, DUC, DDC, and CPRI components. Worked with engineers in England, Fort Worth, China and India.
- Hired and lead a team of 8 FPGA designers to develop 802.11a technology in a mobile environment. The PHY and MAC designs were developed on two Virtex 4 FPGAs. Worked with an Indian outsourcing company and an Israel team to successfully complete the project.
- Lead the definition of the team’s FPGA design process to achieve SEI level 3 .
- Developed a 4 million gate Virtex II FPGA based fingerprint recognition engine after authoring the project proposal, authoring the architecture document, interviewing and hiring 2 contractors, and developing project schedules and risk charts. This project exceeded expectations by over 80%. I championed this project after acknowledging my management team’s assessment that it was high-risk. .
- Developed the project management plan, hardware architecture document, project proposal, and technical requirements documents for a DSP/FPGA design. Lead a team of 7 hardware and software engineers to bring the project t market on schedule in 12 months.
- Saved Motorola over $600,000 per year for 6 years by developing a project proposal and implementing a custom Compact PCI based backplane design. The prototype design worked on the first pass.

The DSP, Altera FPGA, A/D and analog circuitry interfaced with base stations at the baseband level. The design introduced new technologies such as IEEE-1394. Proposed and implemented an architecture with significantly improved availability characteristics.
- Wrote low level C and assembly language code for Motorola DSP and microcontrollers.
- Contributed to a team of product architects to investigate and recommend high availability architectures for the infrastructure product groups.
