Sr Linux Engineer (DevOps)

Key contributions:

  • I was a key evangelist in promoting the DevOps culture and processes at Compuware. I was responsible for its adoption throughout various groups.
  • I designed, built and managed the deployment infrastructure. This was built on top of puppet and custom written REST APIs. It was designed for easy integration and was quickly and easily adopted by many development groups.
  • I extended our deployment infrastructure to support services built fully on top of Amazon AWS services. This included using Cloud Formation, Elastic Beanstalk, Route 53 and other AWs services.

Key Contributions:

  • Designed and built highly redundant NFS storage that was used to store the inventory images for all 35k+ client sites. This used a combination of commodity servers running Solaris/ZFS as well as Netapp NASs (FAS2240-2’s).
  • Wrote custom image services application that provided functionality such as dynamic image creation (ie resize, crop, etc) as well as inline CDN updates to Akamai and Amazon (S3/Cloudfront). It serves millions of request a day.
  • Designed, built and managed the QA/Dev server rooms as well as the production data center.
  • Assisted in building and managing 1100+ Linux (CentOS) servers (Virtual and physical) within our production environments as well as another 400+ servers within the QA/Dev environments.
  • Designed, Built and managed both the production and QA/Dev networks. These were designed to be highly redundant and without any SPF. It was comprised of HP and Dell Switches, Cisco routers and firewalls, F5 BigIP, NginX and HAProxy load balancers.
  • Designed and built automated deployment and configuration system built using puppet, cobbler and pulp.
