Responsibilities:
- I support databases, ETL, and other infrastructure activities within Confidential ’s Cancer Center for my employer, Confidential Software.
- This work involves database support and design, and ETL work that is mostly done in Perl. My description of the work might sound like back - room stuff, but it involves quite a bit of interaction with our large base of users as we work to resolve data integrity issues and enhance processes.

Analyst Programmer (Senior, then Lead)

Responsibilities:
- I led the IT project developing Confidential ’s first Internet website for its research programs. We built custom content management systems (the CMS market was truly undeveloped at that time) in Perl and then in ColdFusion.
- I was the lead developer for Confidential, a ColdFusion web application recording the scholarly activities of more than 15,000 of Confidential ’s staff.
- From the users’ perspective, it is an electronic CV system; from the management perspective it is a reporting and search tool.
- I managed the IT effort and was the lead developer from planning through approval, implementation, and support. It is a very broad and deep project, with electronic links to many institutional and external databases.
- The back-end of this system was a Sybase database that was ultimately migrated into MS SQL Server. ETL is accomplished with some very sophisticated code in Perl and other tools, while the application is implemented with ColdFusion, jQuery and Yahoo’s Javascript UI library (YUI).
- I was the lead developer for a reporting tool used in annual reviews of Confidential ’s research departments and staff. This was a ColdFusion app that generated large and sophisticated Excel reports for each department.
- I developed web-based tools for the maintenance of staff bibliographies using a combination of Perl and ColdFusion.
