Platform Systems Architect/Intel Systems Team Leader

Responsibilities:

• Moved most of the 950 servers from rack - mounted servers to blade server technology and VMWare. The data center was near full capacity of 93% power usage. After a 4.5 year conversion, we had that down to 42%, giving the hospital a saving of half a million dollars in power and cooling savings yearly.
• Worked with the team to move VMWare from a couple hosts and 20 virtual machinesto 50+ hosts, and over 850 virtual machines. We worked with many departments and vendors to move their servers and applications over to VMWare. We had to work extremely hard with several vendors who didn't support virtualized environments to get them converted.
• We implemented Cisco UCS Blades running VMware as the hypervisor, and Citrix XenDesktop for a 5000 VDI desktop project. We implemented EMC XtremIO Flash arrays as the storage for this project.
• My team worked with all departments in the hospital to migrate their servers from older operating systems to current operating systems. This included projects to migrate hundreds of applications, from financial applications to specialized medical applications.
• We worked to migrate the VMWare environment from old IBM XIV SAN environment, to mixture of NFS storage on Netapp, EMC Isilon, and EMC VMAX.
• We implemented EMC RecoverPoint, EMC VPlex, and VMWare SRM for high availability.
• When I started, there was no active monitoring of the systems. I implemented a Nagios based monitoring system for all of the servers, this significantly cut down on the amount of calls received for server problems.

Responsibilities:

• My role was the IT Senior Systems Analyst. Our team managed and supported over 100 servers in the data center, including Windows, Linux, Sun servers, and network equipment. We supported and monitored 4 environments (Production, Test, Development, and Training).
• I helped design and build their data center, which started with about 10 servers, and grew, to over 100 servers in about a 2 - year time-frame. This included moving to a NAS environment and off raid attached storage, redundant power, including a UPS and generator system, and redundant networking components.
• Being so interested in technology helped me in this role to learn new technologies. I learn quickly when working on new systems, and this has helped with learning linux/unix systems after coming from a Windows background.

Senior Server Engineer

Responsibilities:

• Hired on as a contractor to work on the data transition team transferring all knowledge of the NT LAN/WAN from an outside contractor to in - house in 6 months. This required us to learn the total structure of all 3 Master Domains, and 46 Resource Domains, a total of about 400 NT servers in 42 locations in North America, the WINS structure, and UNIX DNS structure.
• Worked with the SAMS migration team to rebuild the 3 NT 4 master domains, and 46 resource domains with corrupted SAMS databases to a new NT 4 single master domain with 42 resource domains.
• Worked with imaging to upgrade the CDR Jukebox and server, which included learning how the OCR software and hardware worked.
• Worked closely with the WAN, UNIX, and Mainframe groups to design and implement the new DNS structure, which was moved from a UNIX environment to NT with emphasis toward Dynamic DNS in Windows 2000.
• Worked to correct and implement a new WINS strategy for the North American sites, taking them from 40+ WINS servers to three.
• Reconfigured the Richmond server base with 2 resource domains, 14 NT 4 Servers, 2 NT 3.51 Servers, and 2 Novell 3.12 Servers, and consolidated resources to 2 resource domains and 8 NT 4 servers. This included data migrations, security reconfigurations, and an Exchange server migration. Also put a fiber-channel tape library in place for a centralized back-up solution.
• Worked on the Y2K team as the lead in network data collections for the Richmond IT site. Provided solutions to the server remediation for the Richmond site and multiple sales sites.
• Worked with the E-mail migration team to migrate users from MS Mail, Lotus Notes Mail, Exchange 5.0, CC:Mail, and Mainframe Mail to Exchange 5.5. This included rolling out new mail servers to multiple locations, and many different mail migrations.
