Technician Specialist

Responsibilities:

  • Use arbitrary waveform generator to create different electrical pulses in experimental testing.
  • Set up differential amplifiers to correct amplitudes and offsets for testing all products.
  • Created rain fixture at specific gallon per minute, droplet size, nozzle shape, etc. This fixture mimics highway rainfall at certain mph.
  • Thermal chambers and temperature shock chambers used for simulation of all weather conditions.
  • Set up work orders for other employees to complete engineering experiments.
  • Use electro static discharge fixture for air and contact ESD tests at component and vehicle level.
  • Bulk Current Injection tests for electronic noise injected into wiring between components.
  • Noise immunity chamber setups at specific heights and distances to view the effects of radiated immunity.
  • Check radiated emissions from vehicle and component levels on unit and air surrounding unit.
  • Meet with engineering on development of new test methods for electric motorcycles.

Technician

Responsibilities:

  • Prototype generators up to 60 kw. Work on frame, engine issues, alternator specs to increase output, fuel systems, and every other part of product from top down.
  • Complete motor troubleshoot. Find issues with coolant flow, fuel supplies, oil pressures, engine timing, etc.
  • Work on circuit boards inside units. Especially control boards and prototype voltage regulators. Modifications as well as new design ideas.
  • Work on transfer switches, generators make use of transfer switching to check between utility and generator, when either is there or other one is needed. Circuitry inside, mechanical frame, home hookups, and software involved.
  • Developmental meetings with engineering over product design.
  • Help with dealer training for engineering.
  • Work on generator issues from the field. Most recent is a motor that hunts when temperatures are below 40 degrees. Resolution is fuel control valve and software review.
  • Also trained on portable generators - complete product.
  • Use thermal chambers for temperatures from 120 to -20 Fahrenheit.

Field Service Engineer

Responsibilities:

  • Perform field service on consoles for sheet metal, tire testing, oil drilling, aerospace, and paper industries. This involves electrical and mechanical repairs.
  • Meet with engineering and plant management during build to go over consoles before delivery to end user. Most consoles priced $500K to $2M. Multi- door systems with many interconnects between cabinets.
  • Validate mechanical and electrical drawings are consistent with completed product and verify connections, parts used, completeness of wiring and PLC programming.
  • Validate all ladder logic prints for customer use. Make changes to either consoles worked on to fit customer needs, or make appropriate changes to drawings to fit engineering guidelines.
  • Initial and full power tests performed by verifying 24 and 120 low voltage circuits, then 480 to 690 volt ac circuits that run drives inside consoles. Horsepower can get up to 6000 hp and current can be as high as 6400 amps. Then test dc bus of 750 to 1000 volts, which will be used to power variable frequency drives that run customer motors. Also verifying all wiring, contacts, relays, and timer hardware.
  • Help install and verify hydraulics on fluid cooled drives, and oil cooled motors.
  • Assist with initial startups, which can involve helping with mechanical aspects of products, such as hydraulics.
  • Confirm software is working per customer specifications. Use PLC logic interface with software aided package to test all possible customer operating conditions. Older units use basic keypad interfaces for all settings. For production units, develop settings per data sheets by setting current levels, system torque, bus set points, etc.
  • Units have uninterruptible power supplies and separate pushbutton control stations.
  • Assist engineering with prototype drives. Test mechanical, electrical, and software designs. Use scope, voltmeter, and my own designed circuits to verify operability.
  • Build production consoles for use in plant from own design. Set up I/O, contacts, power up sequence, and safety guards. Help operators with changes as needed, and create from basic sheet metal to full working console.
  • Complete fabrication of a charging unit for use on all drives made within organization.
