Mainframe and Micro Focus/Net Express Cobol Compatibility Statement
Most mainframe Cobol programs can be migrated to PC/LAN environments. The assembly of the migrated programs, require little or no modification for a clean compile with Micro Focus/Net Express Cobol. The EXEC CICS statements have to be translated and assembled in the Cobol source of both environments. Micro Focus/Net Express Cobol, contains additional extended statements that may be used within a PC/LAN environment. An example, is the ability to execute DOS commands. DOS commands may be used to establish new directory structures, etc. this capability is not available in mainframe Cobol .
Genesys Software Systems maintained their mainframe systems which were created in the 1982 timeframe , so each would run in both mainframe and PC/LAN environments using the same basic source code.
