I am the principle developer for the OBIS oceanographic data portal. My primary task on the project has been to refactor the original (circa 2002) monolithic application code base to use an industry standard three tier model composed of: web, business and data access layers. For this task I used the Spring Application Framework, scriptletless JSPs, Servlets, JSTL and other tag libraries as well as custom tags, CSS, AJAX. This application uses Oracle 10g. I have written many utilities in Pl/SQL to support the data management portion of the project I have done a great deal of work aimed at automating manual processes associated with supporting the OBIS application this includes writing utility applications using the Buoy Builder IDE for Swing development, rule based utilities using the JESS system and internal web sites using the Stripes framework, JSP Wiki for a project knowledge base and the Restlet framework to create RESTFull web services. I have built several web service clients using XML utilities such as XMLBeans and the Apache Commons Digester.

I was the designer and primary developer for a research project management system. I acted as technical lead for a team of eight developers. This is an n-tier system using Struts for the web tier, Spring Application Framework for the business and DAO tiers and Oracle for the RDMS. In addition to the system design I also developed the controller portion of the MVC web tier and developed a framework for the business and DAO layers. On this project I made extensive use of: Java 1.4, Spring, Tomcat, Oracle9i, Hibernate, Ant, Struts, Tiles, CSS, XHTML,SAIF, JSTL, Eclipse 3, Struts and other tag libraries, ClearCase, XML and OpenDeploy. This project followed the Merck SDLC model which is based on CMM and Pharmaceutical industry standards.

On this project I did server side java design/development, client side (UI) design/development using HTML and JavaScript and design/development of Unix crons using Kshell, sed and AWK to handle file transfers to/from legacy systems and perform DB updates for Oracle 9i.

Design, development and support of the ACCLAIM provisioning/customer care system. This three-tier client/server system provided provisioning for AT&T’s local phone service. The ACCAIM system ran on Sun servers and workstations. The majority of the application was written in C++ on the Solaris OS. TUXEDO middleware. Persistence was used as an interface to a SYBASE DB. I was a senior developer on this project and as such I had a hand in virtually all aspects of the ACCLAIM product.

  • I was a member of the design team producing the OO design for order management and trouble ticketing
  • I was the lead developer of the trouble ticketing
  • Wrote a TCL/TK/PERL test tool for the transaction-oriented portion of this system that was utilized by the entire project development team.
