PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
Confidential, Redmond, WA
Technical Services Storage Engineer
Responsibilities:- As an HPE engineer, I am on site at Confidential with the Azure Data Protection Services group, supporting HPE Enterprise Storage Libraries. Primary responsibility includes creating automation (PowerShell) solutions to fill gaps where software tools and existing monitoring fall short for Tape Libraries and Proliant Server management. Additionally, I provide Tier 3 / 4 engineering support to resolve complicated product issues and hardware failures.

Infrastructure Architect and Systems Engineering - Consultant and Proprietor
Responsibilities:- As proprietor of this consulting LLC, I do Assessment, Design, Operations, and Business Continuity advising, and implementation/support services as well. It is part-time or when I have time, often to fill gaps in other consulting firms, providing compute and storage infrastructure assessments for a medical vertical company, ensuring HIPAA standards are met and business services are highly available, redundant, recoverable, and secure.
- Another project is to establish Azure presence and migrate web app to HA and BC configuration in cloud; this involves establishing an MS Azure Enterprise Account and doing initial foundation set up for Azure Active Directory and AD Connect to synch on-premise Active Directory for SSO to azure.

Senior Service Engineer
Responsibilities:- Working with the Server Platform Operations Team in MSIT, our focus is taking everything to The Cloud (Azure). By consolidating and migrating on-prem IaaS to Azure Iaas and PaaS, TCO is significantly decreased and customers gain an abundance of agile features supporting today’s software lifecycles. Work with hybrid infrastructures, developing PowerShell automation and handling cloud escalations (issues and/or implementation challenges).

Systems Engineer
Responsibilities:- This contract position employed me at Confidential, deploying customized application packages using Octopus software (a multi-server application deployment tool). Software build engineers would turn over packages to my team of three and we would deploy through several test environments, logging and resolving bugs, and then to production.
- The data center environment was Azure-based, Windows Server 2012 virtualized on Hyper-V, and SQL 2012 Always-On HA database clusters.
- For database changes, re-provisioning, and backups, I have implemented, configured, fixed, optimized, and backed-up,SQL 2012 Always-On Availability Groups (AG).
- Also executed many database migrations. SQL Always-On implemented primarily in two ways: Windows Failover Clustering for local HA and multi-site AG for DR; or multi-site AG only for both HA and DR. Other skills utilized included Project Management, Powershell scripting to help automate tasks, troubleshooting load-balancing / IIS / Windows / SQL / Network Connectivity.

Lead Engineer / Solutions Engineer
Responsibilities:- As a Lead Engineer for the Windows Engineering team, I served as the main technology liaison for the project manager and other stakeholders on Windows-based financial/banking solutions. I advised the project manager through the PM life cycle (PMLC), through all phases for all required tasks, captured risks, toll gate approvals, security (PCI and PII), and act as the escalation point for all technology-related areas (such as networking, storage, monitoring, virtualization, etc.).
- I help fine-tune application deployment designs to ensure high-availability on a standardized Windows platform for consistency in supportability of all solutions. Attention to detail along with interpersonal skills are required to successfully implement complex solutions across teams and business units.
- While having experience and the ability to work across many technologies, I primarily worked with Windows 2008 R2 (all aspects), SCCM, MS Forefront TMG, and documentation in Visio and Powerpoint. Additionally, as part of an architecture team, I contributed toward design to begin using SQL 2012 Always-On for HA and DR, implemented locally as a Windows Failover Cluster for HA and then using Availability Groups for remote site DR failover.

Senior Data Center Operations Engineer and Architect
Responsibilities:- As the senior engineer in a team starting out at three, I was instrumental in growing application hosting to 100+ physical servers, then consolidating with virtualization. I designed and implemented the first virtual tier on vSphere 4.1, growing our server count to over 800 Windows and 250 Linux VMs, across 35 ESX hosts. I pioneered the upgrade to ESXi 5.0.1, and designed the new virtual tiers in four data centers. We did “Application Hosting” which includes web-based, transactional, and IP telephony custom solutions. I worked closely with other teams such as Network Engineering (firewalls, switches, etc.), Backup & Recovery, and SAN/NAS, and in some cases also shared responsibilities. My primary role began supporting and designing the Windows-based three-tier application hosting infrastructure, then grew to the Virtualization services, F5 BigIP LTM load balancer config and administration, and also some EMC storage and NAS…from planning and designing to deployment and support.
- For my last project, as a key member of a Data Center design team, I planned and designed a completely new highly available infrastructure in a new data center. With the new infrastructure in place, I then began migration of an acquisition to the new DC. I planned, designed, and executed the migration of a tightly integrated 80-server application from an outdated data center infrastructure to the new location, geographically dispersed. Methods included data syncing using F5 WOM (WAN Optimization Module), VMware Site Recovery Manager (not only for migration but for positioning the application for site redundancy DR), and SQL Mirroring/Log Shipping.
- I am an expert with Windows Clustering (MSCS/WFC) and most aspects of VMware. I assess server infrastructures, perform capacity planning, consolidations, and data center migrations from design to execution. I’m adept at documentation and writing deliverables. I work well with teams and individually. I am capable of making critical, technical decisions and accustomed to answering to executive level management. On rare occasions and when needed, I troubleshoot Linux servers, but do not tote this as a skill. However, I’m familiar and comfortable working in heterogeneous environments.
