Responsible for monitoring and meeting needs of special needs students through creating required conversions of text into audio files. I was responsible for a sub-section of meeting federally-mandated accommodations for disabled students. In my work, I converted a common textbook into a format better suited for sight and hearing deficient students. After receiving the books, the spines would be removed. Using a high speed scanner, each book was scanned into the computer. Then the laborious task of OCR (Optical Character Recognition) began. Confidential FineReader was the software that we used. After that was finished, the identified content was recorded into audio files. Finally, the books were hole-punched and returned to the student. Worked with team of administrators, employees and students serving UNC students requesting disability accommodations.
