  • Led project to migrate legacy SQL Server 2000/2005 database servers to a new SQL Server VM farm which has created significant cost saving related to current and future SQL Server licensing.

  • Responsible for evaluating new database related technology to include OLAP, Data Mart, ETL, BI and Custom Reporting solutions. Currently working with Microsoft to evaluate their new BI and Custom Report Tools such as Crescent and PowerPivot.
  • Led project to implement Logical and Physical Data Modeling Process and Standards for the Publix IT Enterprise. Developed Publix specific Logical and Data Modeling courses which have been attended by over 150 Publix IT associates.
  • Led project to redesign the Monitor and Response SLA’s for the Oracle DBA team to optimize support for mission critical, high availability applications such as Enterprise Pharmacy OLTP and DW, Supply Chain and Transportation Management systems. This project improved uptime and availability, saving the company $500K in the first year alone. Recruited, hired and trained additional Oracle DBAs with experience in dealing with large database systems (>1TB) to supplement existing staff. In the past 3 years, the Oracle team has significantly reduced database outages and upgraded these key systems from Oracle 9i to Oracle 11g.
  • Instituted production on-call rotations across the different DBMS platform teams to optimize support and improve team productivity.
  • Established and implemented security database standards to comply with HIPPA, SOX and PCI regulations across the enterprise. Created and implemented Internal Audit process to ensure compliance and database security standards are met.

  • Initiated and led project to automate the database restore process using J2EE technologies and UNIX shell scripting. The Automated Restore System is projected to perform over 2000 database restores each year and will save the company $110K annually.
  • Leading effort to select a data warehouse vendor for the Nielsen Enterprise Data Warehouse. Current focus is on Teradata due to the size of the NEDW (300 to 600 TB) and the number for concurrent users/processes.
  • Leading effort to migrate database servers to consolidated hardware using strategies such as server stacking and server virtualization enabling the company to drastically reduce hardware and support costs.
