PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Confidential, Burbank, CA

Data Warehouse Developer / Designer

Responsibilities:

  • Added a drug/pharmacy claims datamart to the DW. Started from the outside vendor’s (Medco) input files and documents, determined the target datamart table design from discussions with management; designed and programmed Unix c-shell and Oracle SQL*Loader scripts; designed and programmed the Oracle 10g Procs to perform the ETL actions to map the source data to the target tables; programmed, tested and documented the scripts and procedures.
  • Added a mental health claims datamart to the corporate data warehouse. Performed the same actions as for Medco above, but for a different vendor (Value Options), with a different set of source datafiles.
  • Created a datamart to track the status of the main medical claims pipeline (vendor was ViTech) and added this to the corporate data warehouse. (A claim goes through several stages in its lifetime, from opening to paid or denied. This datamart tracked numbers of claims at different stages of the pipeline and the rate of flow of claims through the pipeline.) This datamart had eight dimensions, one detailed fact table and one aggregated fact table to allow for simpler and faster reporting. Very complex ETL processing consisting of about 10 staging tables, 3 Unix shell scripts and 16 Oracle procedures, from simple to complex. This datamart replaced a time-consuming Excel + SQLServer application that required substantial manual work every week. The result was incorporated into the first corporate “dashboard” for use by top-level executives.
