Lead Virtualization Engineer

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the Commodity Futures Trading Commission’s ( Confidential ) VMware/Microsoft virtual environment - 68 VMware Confidential hosts; 12 Hyper-V hosts - spread across two separate datacenters and five regional locations.
  • Manage Avaya VoIP hardware/VM environment - nine (9) hosts across four (4) geographic sites. Management of this environment is done almost exclusively through SSH/PowerCLI, as well as management of Linux appliances and Red Hat/CentOS operating systems.
  • Coordinated redundant SAN storage and Confidential site relocation from DC to Gaithersburg, MD. Redundant hosts at alternate computing facility ran VMs while equipment was moved, racked, and reconnected. Site redundancy was restored in 12 hours.
  • Currently managing a hardware refresh of Cisco Confidential equipment - five blade chassis at two separate datacenters. The project includes ESX installation/upgrade to 6.5/hardening as well as Confidential hardening.
  • Currently designing Confidential upgrade from 5.5 to 6.5, along with ESXi/HP/CiscoUCS hardening. Project to be completed June 3 during a scheduled maintenance window/outage.

  • Designed and configured new Windows Server 2012 Active Directory Forrest at a datacenter “CoLo” for which our current domain resources will be migrated to. This project is still “in progress” but front-facing web properties, VPN, redundant financial systems, and 40% of company exchange databases have already been moved and are fully functional.
  • Upgraded current VMware vCenter 4.1 infrastructure to vCenter 5.1, including Single Sign On, Inventory Service, Converter, SQL 2008 database upgrade, as well as the addition of multiple NAS devices.
  • Designed, tested, and implemented company-wide email services upgrade from Microsoft Exchange 2007 to Microsoft Exchange 2010 (Client Access, Mailbox, Hub Transport, Edge) complete with multiple CA, Hub, Edge, and DAG (database availability group).
  • Upgraded current virtual environment from VMware ESX 3.5 to Vsphere 4 across eight (8) server hosts with an iSCSI connection to four (4) HP SAN devices. The project also included the upgrade of Virtual Center Server 2.5 to vCenter 4.1.
  • Lead companywide migration and build-out moving to new SAN and VMware virtualization servers from stand-alone server farm.
  • Implemented server farm directory services upgrade from Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2008 R2 (native) with redundant servers within/without the virtual environment.
