  • I was in charge of upgrading security on over six hundred switches at their grain facilities.
  • Each site was mapped with Visio to determine the need for each site upgrade
  • A script was written and I logged in remotely and upgraded them from telnet to ssh
  • The site mapping took approximately six months. A site inventory was taken and compared to our CMDB to determine which switches needed to be replaced and decommissioned.
  • Once on each site I would look for duplicate IP address and remedy.
  • Those switch ports that were on the wrong vlans were fixed with a script that I had written to change the active vlan and save the new one to the running config on the fly.
  • If I remember correctly I configured over one hundred plus switches.
  • This involved talking the site leads, scheduling the installs, decommissioning the old switches and troubleshooting any issues that would come up with installs
  • On numerous occasions we had to order multimode fiber, sfp modules or trouble shoot the connections
  • I ran into duplex errors, gateway issues, wrong subnets, motor control devices running at half duplex
  • The majority of these switches were catalyst: 2940,2960,IE 3000, 3550 and 3560 s and we ran eigrp as our main routing protocol
