Information Specialist – Systems Administrator

• Setup and maintenance of VMware ESXi 5.0 environment, including multiple ESXi hosts, Terabytes of SAN storage connected via fibre and a VCenter Server Windows host.
• Populate the VMware 5.0 environment by creating new virtual machines, migrating existing VMware 4 VM’s, Microsoft VM’s and physical to virtual methods.
• Utilize virtual machine best practices including vSphere High Availabilty, Vmotion, Resource Pools and vSphere DRS.
• Create, configure and deploy new servers to meet internal organizational requests and needs. Includes the following taks:
• Size the new machines according to its intended role.
• Install/configure the Windows operating system including IP address, DNS and WINS settings. Add the machine to the appropriate domain.
• Install/configure any necessary software for its intended role (IIS, Oracle, Websphere MQ).
• Install/configure virus software, firewall rules, and group policy settings.
• Configure appropriate users, groups, shares and permissions.
• Perform monthly Microsoft updates via WSUS.
• Perform server firmware, driver, and software updates on a monthly and “as needed” basis.
• Install/Rack new physical hardware into onsite server area, including Servers, PDUs, Switches, Tape Vaults, KVMs and Monitors. Perform all cabling requirements and logical organization to minimize clutter.
• Manage nightly and weekly tape backups of approximately 80 onsite servers using CA Arcserve Backup. Manage shipping/receiving of offsite tapes with Iron Mountain Offsite Tape Storage.
• Racked new Tape Libraries to be used with HP DataProtector. Attached to host machine and storage area network via fibre cable. Installed host operating system and configured DataProtector to recognize all attached components.
• Managed hardware recycling effort. This involved identifying machines that had been retired or could be retired. Erasing hard drives according to DOD standards and removing and internal memory or add in cards that could be used in other systems. Provided a listing of serial numbers for machines to be recycled and disconnected/unracked all machine for the recyclers to pick up.
• Production support role for a large health plan in the midrange environment utilizing Java and Seebeyond, running on Sun Solaris Unix platform. Involved providing On-Call support, promotion of code, debugging application faults and coding new interfaces in Java. Provided Training for the application to several backup resources.
• Lead technical architect and developer on ITS (Inter-plan Teleprocessing System) team to install software fora large health plan. Responsible for designing the architecture for an integration project. Created and held reviews of requirements, process specification and testing plan documents. Coded, tested and delivered project to the customer on time and within budget.
• Lead Tech/PM - Designed a solution to interface a third party pharmacy claim processing system with the customers’ core medical/dental claims processing system. Architected the appropriate database structure to house data that needed to be transported between the two systems. Designed a solution using an Oracle database, MQ Series and CA All:Fusion gen to accomplish the task. Performed most of the coding, testing and implementation tasks personally, as well as reporting status updates and completion percentages/timelines to both companies on a weekly basis.
• Lead tech/PM on several critical projects utilizing Sun SeeBeyond. Responsible for designing the architecture for the project. Performed Project Management tasks by coordinating multiple developers while simultaneously filling the lead developer role. Responsible for communicating progress and issues to management as well as to the customer in weekly client meetings. Traveled to customer site several times to install the new product, provide training and implement changes to correct problems identified.
• Attended and successfully completed necessary courses to become a SeeBeyond Certified e*Gate Implementer.
• Responsible for designing, coding and testing fixes for problems identified by a large health plan customer. Fixes included changes to clients and servers within membership, claims and provider processing areas.
