  • One job was an F5 installation for Ashland Oil in Lexington, KY, to build, and configure a pair of F5 5200s, shipped one to a company they had just purchased in the Netherlands, then when contacted by the engineers there, implemented and tested over dual MPLS circuits. These were set up as both forward and reverse proxies. License Certificates were installed.
  • A job for the city of Chattanooga to install SolarWinds NPA (Network Performance Monitor), NPA (Utilization and Bandwidth Monitoring), LAN Manager, and Engineer’s Tools software’s, those software’s License Certificates, and trained the network engineers on the use of the software.
  • For the US Bankruptcy Court in Sacramento, CA. designing, building, configuring, test and implementation of two BlueCoat 600 Web accelerators to transfer the customer’s SAN data from the HQ data center to the backup center 180 miles south. This was also from the SOW call through getting dual MPLS circuits from AT&T and Verizon to the implementation being complete and tested.

  • One of a team of 5 engineers hired to perform an IOS upgrade, and build, test and implement a QOS build for Charter’s CPE switches which were primarily Cisco ME-3400’s.
  • Build the QOS configuration, then at the appointed time for each customer login to their switch, download IOS ver 12.54 and reload the switch. Then login again and download the QOS build to the running config file and save it to the startup file.
  • Convinced Charter to build a database, which provided a good data storage spot to utilize since there were over 6200 customers.
  • Used templates for the QOS build, which shortened the time to accomplish the installation and also ensured the QOS was correct for each customer.
  • Implemented IOS upgrade, QOS build and install on over 6000 Cisco ME-3400s, as well as approximately 200 Cisco 3550s and 3570s.

  • Tier 3 support for Confidential and its customers, in charge of network support including build, test and implement, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, and proxies for all networks of Confidential and their customers.
  • This involves taking tickets from several sources and finding what the issue is, then resolving the issue including upgrades, routing, switching, firewall rules changes, proxy policies, and anything else to do with the network devices.
  • Helping resolve wireless issues to the point of determining whether it is an actual wireless controller or WAP issue or a desktop config issue.
  • We resolve the network issues and hand off the desktop config issues to desktop support.
  • We are involved in all new network builds due to the fact of having to subsequently support them. All changes to any network equipment must be done by our group.
  • The devices involved were all the devices Cisco has made in the last 25 years as well as Juniper firewalls, Alteon, Radware and F5 load balancers, and Bluecoat Proxies. F5 work was any troubleshooting of issues, the repair of the same, plus all changes to the VIPs, pools, and nodes which any customer requested. These changes involved ensuring the proper IP addresses, MACs, as well as loading the proper security certificates.
  • Documentation and security are always part of our duties as security is of utmost importance and documentation must always be updated with any change that occurs.
  • Confidential had 2 core 6500s which were changed to NX-OS 7000s while NX-OS was still in Beta, and customers of Confidential have multiple network layouts.
  • MPLS is a large part of CSCs business as they are a worldwide corporation with customers across the globe.
  • DuPont implemented wireless network in most locations but had a large number of issues, some of which were network issues, mostly with WAP placement.

This was 6 NX-OS 7000s, 12 NX-OS 5000s, and 28 NX-OS 2500s, the build, configuration, test and implementation was done in 9 days.

  • IP issues were uncommon but taken care of by means of various tools including sniffers, network management software, and debugging network equipment.

Responsibilities:

  • Primary duties were core/distribution layer upgrade of the IBM/AT&T Discover Card account in Columbus, OH and Dallas, TX.
  • Worked in the Columbus data center and had the capability to remotely work in the Dallas data center.
  • The Dallas site was 4 digit VLANS due to the fact that was what was inherited when IBM took over the Discover Card account. The Columbus site has 3 digit VLANs.
  • The new access switches have ACE and GSS modules due to the number of applications and the importance of security for those applications.
  • All tier 2 and tier 3 work for 84 Cisco devices ranging from 2600 series through the new 6506 routers and 2900 through the new 6513 switches in Columbus and tier 3 work in Dallas for the same equipment.
  • A migration/conversion of the VLAN configuration was done in Dallas prior the core/distribution upgrade.
  • Wrote the config files for Columbus and Dallas redundant core routers and distribution switches ( 2 Catalyst OS 6509s being changed to two IOS 6506s and two 6513s), doing the physical build, write and install the config files, test, and put into production the new routers and switches.
  • Changing configurations of F5 load balancers and BlueCoat proxy/web accelerators due to core/distribution upgrade of Discover Card network.
