PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

Confidential, Manahawkin, NJ

DB2 Database Administrator

Responsibilities:

  • Brought on as staff enhancement to support the massive Confidential DB2 environment.
  • I did whatever was needed including 24 off hour mass production data migrations per year, keeping object definitions in sync across dozens of LPARS and subsystems, support upgrades to DB2 such as changing plan and DSN tables, running code thru SQL check tool prior to release, and some DB2 replication work.

Confidential, Red Bank, NJ

DB2 and Sybase Database Administrator

Responsibilities:

  • I was brought in to train and assume the DBA tasks for DB2 and some Sybase from the outgoing staff from Plymouth’s purchase of Prudential Property and Casualty.
  • My task was to keep things up and running and support the little development that occurred during this time.
  • I successfully executed a disaster recovery test during this time.

Confidential, Philadelphia, PA

DB2 Database Administrator, DBA Manager

Responsibilities:

  • Confidential outsourced all IT and I was tasked with performing as both hands on DBA while managing a 10 member team for Confidential Global Services supporting DB2 and Oracle.
  • The outgoing staff left overnight maintenance jobs in bad shape so we were addressing abends all night every night for quite a while.
  • This actually expedited our getting to know the environment.
  • We also had to coordinate a mass data center transfer from Philadelphia to a remote Confidential site.
  • One settled in, we supported YR2K change work.

Confidential, Willow Grove, PA

DB2 Database Administrator

Responsibilities:

  • DB2 was new to Prudential at this time.
  • I was selected to move from Cobol programming to be the first and only DB2 DBA in the Confidential Office for development and roll out of new pension billing system.
  • It was my charge to figure out this new RDBMS and grow it in our shop.
  • I taught DB2 concepts to application developers.
  • Seeing a need for a technical forum for this new technology I formed and hosted the company wide Prudential DB2 Users Group.
  • Technical staff from all four IT sites met and presented information on new and unique experiences.
  • Seeing a need for a data migrating tool, and our DB design being heavy on RI, I identified and brought in a tool called Confidential for beta testing.
  • Production DB2 support was new to overnight coordinators and systems staff. This led to our first production failure.
  • I was able to successfully recover production data when a weekend reorg failed and also the system logs being out of sync with current time.
  • This led to authoring the first documentation for DB2 production support protocols.
