Sr. DB2 Database Administrator

Responsibilities:

This resulted in significant savings. The original plan was to hire several contractors to recompile and test all the Taco Bell programs.
  • Changed bufferpool strategy from being application centric to I/O centric. Prior to the change the hit ratio for the bufferpools were averaging somewhere between 60-70%. After the new strategy was implemented all bufferpools, except the one reserved for asynchronous I/O, were almost always over 90%.
  • Led effort to create DBA standards which resulted in: (1) use of best practice, (2) DBAs were no longer siloed into supporting specific applications, (3) reduction in oncall problems, (4) more efficient DBA maintenance processes.
  • Designed and built a process to refresh non-production Peoplesoft databases using a SORT compare process and generated DSN1COPY jobs. The elapsed time to refresh Peoplesoft Financials dropped from a week to one day.
  • Implemented Sliding Secondary Extents which resulted in significant DASD savings and the elimination of DBAs over allocating pagesets.
  • Led a DBA team effort to identify and tune the worst performing SQL. Out of the top twenty worst performing SQL, we improved all of them except two.
  • Implemented Real-Time Statistics and used it to drive our weekend maintenance processing. Results of a significant decrease in overall maintenance elapsed time allowed us to implement distribution statistics.
  • Implemented a process to minimize DBA effort in Disaster Recovery tests. This allowed us to eventually designate the oncall DBA at the time of the test to be on point.
