Sr. Oracle DBA

Responsibilities:

  • Work involve supporting the Oracle Databases. Regular monitoring of the database performance, RMAN backup and general database management task which includes user creation, space management, object creation, manage grants and roles, privilege management etc.
  • Other task includes re-fresh different schemas in the development database with the data dumps from the client. Involved in lot of Database Performance Analysis and tuning projects.
  • One of the client’s conversion process ETL was running for over 24hrs after analyzing the trace and execution plan created a bitmap index for the column involved in the query and the process finished within seconds.
  • Between Jun 2011 and Sep 2011 went to on-site project in US for an ETL performance tuning project.
  • It was estimated the ETL process was taking about 56 days to run.
  • After tuning the database and changes to the ETL design, I was able to reduce the processing time to less than 6 days.
  • The Clients expectation was 14 days. The tuning task involved physical changes to the DB, server, and parameters after analyzing the AWR reports and design changes are suggested to enable scalability to the application.
  • Worked in cloud Services Team in the CTS managing the Oracle Databases on AWS and Resolved many Critical Issues which were more challenging.

Sr. Oracle Database Administrator

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Oracle10g Upgrade Project. Also did lot of tuning exercise of the clients Production database using Explain plan, sqltrace/tkprof, spotlight and EM Grid Control.
  • Taking care of applying all the necessary patches including the quarterly CPU Patches.
  • Other tasks includes DEV/QA database refresh, database monitoring (Uptime, correcting errors, performance and tuning). Also setup the heterogeneous connection between Oracle and SQL Server databases.
  • Migrated the client’s Oracle10g database from sun Solaris to Oracle Enterprise Linux on the X-86-64 bit architecture successfully and also setup the Data Guard (Physical standby databases).
  • There was an Issue with an ETL job which ran every day to populate certain tables from which the daily reports needs to be produced and these reports needs to be available before 8:00 AM to the client. Due to the volume of the data growth this process was started taking more time.
  • Analyzed and monitored the job and made changes to the design of the job and by adding relevant indexes and hints enable to bring down the processing time to an acceptable level.

Sr. Oracle Database Administrator

Responsibilities:

  • As one of 7 members DBA team, I was responsible for the support and optimal operation of Over 50 databases in terms of high availability and response time.
  • Involved in upgrade projects from Oracle8i and 9i to 10g.
  • Installed and maintain Oracle Application server 10g.
  • Involved in the regular Oracle CPU patching exercise over different databases and Oracle application Servers.
  • Involved in the Performance Tuning of different databases.
  • Worked on Oracle 10g RAC/ASM databases administration.
  • Other duties are Oracle Database general management including space management, Backup and recovery Testing, RMAN backups, creating Service request with Oracle Support as and when required and follow-up with them to fix the Issues.
  • One of the performance tuning project was a batch job tuning. The batch job which needs to run regularly every day for the normal day to day activity was started taking long time to run (over 4days), this is not acceptable as daily day to day work was affected. Client expectation was 12 hrs. As this application was a 3rd party application and the codes are all wrappers, you can’t see the code or edit the code. So did the trace and monitored the process while it was running. Without touching the code used creation of new indexes, created outlines to change the execution plans and with additional parameter changes I was able to bring down the run time of that batch job to less than 8 hrs.
  • In another performance tuning exercise there was an Issue with the Oracle application server batch processing. The process used to take couple of minutes started taking hours to run. Monitored and analyzed the trace and found that the process is waiting on the slave process. So advised to increase the slave process and the process finished in seconds.
  • After the 10g upgrade one of the payroll process started running for more than 8 hours and failed after running out of TEMP tablespace. Analyzed the explain plan and adding necessary parameter changes and hints, I was able to bring down the processing time to 15 minutes.
