Systems Supervisor/ UDB DB2/ DB2 DBA / PeopleSoft Administrator/Project Manager

  • Managed two upgrade projects of PeopleSoft HRMS from version 6.12 to version 7.56 to version 8.14 as well as upgrading the PeopleSoft Financials application from version 7.541 to version 8.14.

We are in our final phase prior to implementation of the HRMS product. The HRMS system contains 8 DB2 databases across 3 subsystems. Each database contains a little more than 60 tablespaces, 1500 tables and nearly 2500 indexes
  • Managed the Database Administration activities to implement an e-Business solution for the corporation’s system. This involved installing DB2 LUW 6.1, Websphere 3.0, and MQ Series workflow Manager on both AIX and NT platforms. My role was to oversee the installation and tuning of the various products that interacted with the database, as well as the tuning requirements of the database itself. The initial inquiry only rollout was successfully implemented in less than 4 months. This implementation involved maintaining over 20 Websphere servers serving thousands of Internet clients.
  • Managed the installation of the Siebel tool suite. This product was brought in to help perform document management throughout the corporation. I managed the installation of the product on the AIX platform and worked with representatives from IBM and Siebel in order to develop the most optimal network topography to serve the corporation. This project required that I become more deeply involved with contract negotiations between the various vendors. These negotiations included purchasing hardware, software, and acquiring contractors to assist in the installation.
  • In my role as a Database Administrator, I oversaw the installation/upgrade of the DB2 LUW software for the corporation. We upgraded from version 3.1 to version 4.1. version 5.1, 6.1, and currently to version 7.1. This involved performing the required maintenance to the DB2 catalog on 3 different subsystems. I also changed the Zparms in order to take full advantage of Type 2 indexes, new subsystem recognition characters, and stored procedures.
  • Created, with management’s approval, a virtual Database Administration team. The purpose of the team was to allow cross of the DBAs across the various applications, which they supported. This also allowed the User community to call any DBA and have their questions answered. I managed this team of 6 other DBAs.
  • Project managed the design, creation, and implementation of a DB2 database which supported a redesigned system. The project is a multi-phase design, which spans multiple years. The first phase that was implemented into production was the Account Maintenance Release (AMR). The AMR database contains 88 tables in 88 tablespaces with 73 Referential Integrity constraints. Underwriter Approval added an additional 40 tablespaces and tables and 53 indexes. Billing increased the database by an additional 78 tablespaces, 82 tables, and 112 indexes. We are currently in the testing phase of the Members release. This release has added another 80 tablespaces and tables, and 120 indexes.
  • Implemented a Customer Service database in DB2. This database was integrated with a Client/Server application, which allowed the Customer Service Representatives to access the database through GUI screens developed in Powerbuilder. The connection from the Server to DB2 was established through Gupta software.
  • Supervised a team of consultants through implementation of a new Corporate Provider database. This new database will in corporate data that is currently stored in 6 different flat file databases. This new database was built in DB2 and using Client/Sever technology as well as incorporating Internet capabilities.
  • Worked on the project team to implement a new asset management system. . This new system will use the Tivoli Systems Inventory Database, Remote Control, Software Distribution, and the Tivoli Event Control database. The inventory database uses DB2 UDB for AIX. The TEC database utilizes Oracle. I am acting as lead DBA on this project and have 2 other DBAs reporting to me.
  • Led the initiative to convert the PeopleSoft HRMS application from the use of Centura’s SQLHOST to using IBM’s DB2 Connect. This involved coordinating the activities of several people from different departments within the company. My role also included contacting the vendor and arranging our support schedule. I also had a small part in the negotiating of the service contact with our vendor.

  • Implemented over 100+ LAN workstations utilizing Novell’s NetWare for OS/2 for a leading financial corporation. This included installing all software and setting up all hardware. This also included the staff in how to use NetWare for OS/2 as well as in the use of OS/2.
  • Managed a hardware configuration/security audit for a leading wireless communication corporation, which consisted of conducting a full audit of their hardware and software. The audit also included evaluating the possible gaps that were found in their security procedures.
  • Project managed a hardware configuration/re-engineering initiative for a leading lending institution, which consisted of re-engineering a credit loan processing system and downsizing it to PC workstations. The downsizing included acquiring the workstations, installing al the networking cards, installing the networking software as well as the programming software. The re-engineering effort also included converting all the programs in the system and porting them down to the workstations.
  • Developed and implemented a Data Capture system for the state of Tennessee. The system allowed the state’s staff to input their time and attendance information through a Common User Interface developed for their workstations. The system interfaced with the Labor Distribution and Cost Allocation system, and posted the appropriate information to the proper accounts. The system utilized DB2 MVS, UDB, AIX, NT, IMS, and CICS.
  • Acted as the Technical Manager during the implementation of a Labor Distribution and Cost Allocation system for the state of Tennessee. This involved overseeing the purchasing and installation of the workstations that contained interfaces to allow IMS databases and DB2 tables to communicate to each other within the same programs. This system operated within both online CICS as well as batch COBOL II environments. This system was installed in all the various state agencies.
  • Developed and implemented a software configuration management system for a leading financial corporation. The system assisted staff in identifying the interrelationships between components and assessing the complexity of enhancement efforts. The system utilized DB2 and ISPF.
