A 20-year-old Peoplesoft financial system was replaced with Oracle Revenue and Billing Management (ORMB) product.
I was the hands-on technical architect for the entire implementation. PeopleSoft was hosted on older UNIX box and was running from 9i. Target was Exadata running Oracle 12c.
This was not a simple lift and load - data had to be migrated into the newer structures. Challenges included different character sets - a single byte Western European was used in the legacy system while a multi byte Unicode character was used in the new product; batch differences in the new product; concurrency standards for the front-end application etc.
This, by far, is the biggest implementation of ORMB in the industry. Led a team of onsite/offsite engineers during the ORMB migration project.
Led the effort to automate numerous database tasks - integrated the automation with Service Now.
This reduced turnaround from weeks to minutes for repetitive tasks.
For instance, a database build process went from more than a week to one day.
Lead a devops team to automate database deployments. Used Liquibase to automate all non-prod automated deployments.
This reduced the project workaround from months to literally days.
Led the Snowflake proof of concept exercise.
Migrated SAS backend database to Teradata. Was the primary Teradata architect for this effort.
One of the challenging tasks was to use the new Teradata backup infrastructure called DSA.
This immensely improved the performance of online system.

An iPad application & Portal were developed for the fund performance application.
Created iPad /Portal ready data (report ready data), web services (that emit data in JSON/XML format) and provided interfaces to front end UI screen.
Response time is paramount in these kinds of applications - every query had to return in less than 5 seconds regardless of data.
Numerous database techniques were employed during this development.
Agile methodology was used to develop this application. This application was very well received by the clients.
Performance tuning of numerous queries.
Special focus is placed on query deviation - very well versed with profiles, outlines and hints (in addition to the more traditional performance methods)

Worked for Information Management division - this division is responsible for data warehousing and data services.
Data from numerous internal and external sources is loaded and transformed according to business requirements.
Oracle and Teradata are used as data repositories. Informatica is the primary loading tools. Cognos, Business Objects, SAS and Microstrategy are used to retrieve stored data.

Provided DBA support for 50 OLTP databases, operational data-warehouses and datamarts used by life and annuity business.
Provided design and development support for a warehouse specific to life and agent compensation business.
Support included working closely with developers to help them with their performance and uptime requirements.
As an example, I had to tune numerous queries to improve the response time to 3-4 seconds from 2-3 minutes.
This involved extensive use of OEM, SQL tracing and TKPROF.
Provided development support for converting agent compensation system from mainframe databases to Oracle.
Support included creating development, QA and production environments, periodically refreshing QA from production, version releases from development to QA and then to production.

Day to day responsibilities include ensuring uptime, system performance, responding to performance issues, backup and recovery and providing future technology direction.
