Responsibilities:

  • Chicago Tribune move to Workday from PeopleSoft required a significant Data Archiving Effort to retain data for reporting.
  • Oracle 8i Database Backups (Export) and Oracle 11gR2 (Import) of Oracle PeopleSoft Financials and HCM Databases off Sun Solaris to Windows 2012 R2.
  • Nine Databases moved, approximately 900GB each, from older versions of Sun Solaris and Oracle Database 8i to Windows 2012 R2 Servers Oracle 11gR2.
  • SQL Scripts were executed to extract database sizing from the Sun Solaris Oracle Databases prior to rebuilding them on Windows 2012 R2 Servers. PeopleSoft Software Installs on Windows 2003/2007.

Technical Lead Oracle DBA & PeopleSoft Administration

Responsibilities:
  • Client on older versions of Oracle 8.1.7 and PeopleSoft.
  • Production and Development Support, troubleshooting Performance Issues.
  • Client has experienced Oracle Online and Batch Severe Performance Issues for last number of years (8) resulting in database lockups lasting for 40 minutes or more in the FSCM and HCM production databases. HCM Payroll experienced lockups for 15 to 20 minutes during CalcPay and Confirm payroll batch COBOL Programs.
  • Previous DBAs performed hard shutdown/abort/restart of the databases to resolve these database lockups.
  • Monitored Databases and researched locking issues using Quest/Toad Software. Oracle tables and indexes in the database files were in an Oracle Storage Wait (ST) Lock Status, meaning the files were attempting to extend but were unable to do so with good performance.
  • Database DBA DATA FILES were set to auto-extend although next extent values were set At 1 Oracle Block (8K). The combination of Dictionary Managed Tablespaces (DMT), not Locally Managed Tablespaces (LMT), and the next extent set to 1 physical Oracle Block resulted in the severe storage waits, database lockups, and the hard shutdown/abort of the databases to resolve..
  • InitiallyExtended tablespace files to allow for growth which prevented database lockups for file extension. Then modified the next extent for the files experiencing the (ST) locks to 16M.
  • Extending the file sizes and modifying the next extent resolved the severe database locking. Ultimately data and index tablespaces were converted to LMT and the databases were then upgraded to 9i using LMT for all tablespaces including the SYSTEM tablespace. Database locking was resolved and response time was improved dramatically.
  • Oracle Upgrade from 8.1.7 to 10g
  • W2 Load Program TAX910LD.sqr has been running for 24+ hours for the past 7 years. Tuned the program/tables/indexes and program now runs typically in under 10 minutes. Other online and batch tuning efforts were successful also increasing performance.
  • Tuning Efforts resulted in: Oracle SQL Hints in PeopleSoft PeopleCode, Structured Query Reports (SQR), PeopleSoft Application Engine Programs, Adding Indexes, and Updating Object Statistics.
  • Responsible for post PeopleTools 8.49.18 upgrade support.
