The construction of an Outside Plant training facility from the ground up, known as the Cable College is my proudest accomplishment. Since the school had to be built and all outside plant construction had to meet or exceed Bell specifications, I gained a thorough knowledge of all underground, buried and aerial applications, including fiber optic criteria. The finished product was a complete facility that incorporated all facets of the outside plant environment in a real-world setting. A training course, consisting of ten modules, was designed to be used in a two-week school. These modules consisted of metallic and fiber splicing and testing; T-1, DSL, HDSL, and ADSL technologies and testing. We also designed advanced courses covering fiber optic disciplines and networking. The course was made to be adaptive to the various degrees of ability and experience of the technicians. From time to time we were also called upon to troubleshoot problems in the field. These problems could be anything from loop-start hunt group problems to diagnosing an alarm in a remote terminal Litespan 2000.
As a supervisor, I managed work loads for up to 15 technicians. Designating work priorities as to project needs and assuring quality assurance was another job function as was maintaining company and personnel records. In this position, I met or exceeded company guidelines.
