Design Engineer
Confidential, Tucson, AZ
Responsibilities:
- Heavy Design & light detailing of Commercial Aircraft Super First Class cabin
- Furniture & Lounge Area furniture using NX 7.5 & Teamcenter 8.0.
- Examples of the furniture I designed included: High-Tech TV monitor monuments & mountings, monuments to support the bed cushion in the V.I.P. bedroom, along with decorative
- Confidential or room divider panels & decorative ceiling panels with trick lighting lamps & components mounted in the panels to give mood lighting & similar effects to suit the tastes of the passenger. One way tickets to fly on these full size aircraft with all these features sell for as much as twenty thousand dollars so the designed parts all required fancy trims & finishes such as wallpaper-like coverings (e.g. Tedlar) or expensive high gloss paint to give the look & feel that the airline in question was requesting to suit their taste & the taste they understood their passengers to have.
- These designs required that we work closely with an Industrial Design house in Europe whose specialty was refining the look & feel the customer Airline was desiring.
- It was also required that we work closely with the plane manufacturer (either Boeing stateside or Airbus in Europe) as they must also approve of every design being installed in their aircraft.
- Our panel designs required that we design various aluminum brackets: 1.) to mount to the panels for mounting of components such as TV’s & 2.) to connect one panel to another to give strength to the overall structure of the design so that it would pass the stress tests put to it by the Stress/ Finite Element Modeling group. These brackets were usually designed using the Sheet Metal Module/Package of NX.
- Many parts, e.g. especially the panel Tedlar coverings, were also frequently modeled using the “wave-geometry-linker” feature built into NX so that if the panel under this wallpaper-like covering were to change later these changes would immediately populate into the covering the next time the covering was activated & updated so that less time would be required to update the linked parts &/or any drawings that might be related to such parts.

Responsibilities:
- Heavy detailing & 3-D design of sheet metal parts & industrial air filtration systemsfilter assemblies, housings as large as rooms, high-tech manifolds for outputting high- pressure air jets to self-clean the filters & other parts for cleaning air inside industrial environment: s such as manufacturing plants & common office buildings.
- Other installations that product is designed for include those with flammable grain dust inside huge silos & granaries to mines with, e.g., dangerous coal dust in them to huge plants with frequent smoke needing filtration to other installations where overly high concentrations of oil & water in the air are commonly a major concern.
- Parts were designed with NX Sketcher Modeling, NX Expressions modeling & NX primitives modeling using the new NX Sheet Metal package & also the old forming & flattening flat pattern features, and the standard NX Master Modeler package with much work having been done via the use of part families, waved geometry linker with linked bodies and so on.
- Heavy use of the NX Assembly package & NX Drafting Package to produce tons of new drawings & designs from scratch using the latest NX &Teamcenter tricks regarding dataset swaps of source files into destination files to help cut down on the time needed to make drawings from scratch.
