Billerica, MA

SUMMARY:

  • I’ll get straight to the point here so as not to waste your time.
  • I’m applying for the COBOL programming position you have available. For the past twenty years, the main programming language I’ve been developing with has been Powerbuilder. But for the previous twenty years before that, I was writing in COBOL.
  • For twelve years at Confidential Laboratories, I wrote COBOL applications for Confidential ’s internal MIS department, helped write and implement the COBOL standards that all of Confidential MIS used, and wrote and maintained internal applications within the Confidential .
  • I learned Powerbuilder when I worked for Sybase in the late 90’s. For the past five years, I’ve been contributing to and maintaining a very large application called Confidential using Powerbuilder as the front end, and stored procedures on the backend of a DB2 database running on an IBM AS/400.
  • I have kept up with the language and am confident that I could step back in and start writing COBOL applications tomorrow without skipping a beat.
  • You’ve probably already figured out that I’m not a kid fresh out of college. I have been around for a few years. Please don’t let that deter you. Given my experience, diverse technical abilities, and people skills, I know I would be a valuable asset to your company for the foreseeable future.
