Systems and Application Administrator based in the Corporate Headquarters office in Irving Texas. Support day to day application and systems operations for the Rebar Division’s offices across the United States. Also a member of the data protection team maintaining and supporting server data backup and restoration for all corporate divisions in North America.

Member of the team that created the first consolidated regional rebar fabrication group using a single centralized SQL database loaded on a large database server with the production and accounting software installed on Microsoft terminal servers to provide access to users in multiple rebar fabrication locations in a multi-state geographical region. Worked directly with the application vendor to consolidate data from the separate fabrication locations into a single database. Specified, ordered, configured and loaded the servers, and led the installation and implementation of the systems. This model was ultimately successful enough that it has been implemented throughout the rebar fabrication division nationally, and now incorporates Virtual terminal servers and clustered SQL servers to provide redundancy of systems to the division.

Coordinated the move of the IT equipment and communications services when the North Texas regional rebar office moved in to a newly remodeled and expanded office in south Dallas. Worked with the telephone company to provision and install the voice and data circuits. Contracted the network cabling vendor and specified the cabling layout for the offices. Researched, selected and directed the installation of the first Voice over IP telephone system in the company. Both the computer and the telephone systems were business ready on the day of the move.

First Systems and Network Administrator hired by the company, with the goal to update and network the existing systems, which consisted of an AIX based, highly customized accounting and point of sale software system and a DOS based production software system that was specific to the industry. The production software ran as a stand-alone application or on a simple DOS-based peer-to-peer network.
Over the next several years, usually constrained by a tight budget, I worked with the CFO to introduce MS Windows based TCP\\IP LANS to all of the locations, establish email and internet access to first the corporate office, and then the other locations as we implemented our WAN and Windows NT Domain with the aid of consultants. The company grew to include 20 offices in 9 states, and during this time our IT staff added two technicians who worked under my supervision.
Working with the CFO, the IT department presented the Board of Directors with a proposal to implement a recently combined Production and Accounting software using a Citrix based system to make the applications available to all company locations while maintaining lower IT costs by centralizing control and administration in the corporate office in Dallas.
The Board accepted our proposal, and we implemented the project to the point of making the final conversion from our AIX accounting system, when a downturn in construction and rising material costs ultimately caused our investors to sell the company to Commercial Metals.
