  • The Financials 8.4 SP2 Peopelsoft application was upgraded to 9.0 MP5.
  • The HR application is being upgraded from 8.9 to 9.0 MP5. This is the latest certified upgrade path from 8.9 to 9.0.
  • Worked as a Technical Team Lead for all the projects above.

    Responsibilities:

    • Assisting in Re-Platforming issues. Working with Oracle to develop the plan and technical tasks needed to re-platform the database from DB2 to Oracle.
    • Performing all the technical tasks – especially creating all the exports and import scripts and running the same. Splitting them across different machines to reduce the down time for the Go-Live.
    • Playing a role in defining the charter, the scope of the projects, defining the roles and responsibilities, the communications and risk management plans for the Upgrade project.
    • Deciding the strategy for the Upgrade and the order of the different projects. All projects were to be completed in around 1.5 years.
    • Preparing the technical schedule for the Upgrade. Worked with the Functional team to complete the whole schedule.
    • Preparing the environment strategy document. Deciding how many new 9.0 databases are needed for the Upgrade and which databases will be used for Initial pass, Test Move 1, 2 and 3. We are having 3 test Moves.
    • Downloading all the Upgrade documentation from Customer Connection.
    • Helping in preparing the Test Strategy.
    • Preparing the Environment strategy for both Hr and FN Upgrade.

    • Upgrade of all public queries.
    • Reapplying all PeopleCode, SQR, Application Engine customizations to the new delivered Peoplesoft 9.0 application. We do have a lot of customizations and interfaces in BCBS.
    • Preparing dms scripts to automate the re-applying of new configuration in the test moves so that there is no manual effort.
    • Applying all Required for Upgrade bundles for the Upgrade path.
    • Applying the UPGCONVERT project and other files from the customer connection page to the source and target home directories.
    • Helped the DBA’s understand how much database space is needed for the 9.0 databases, much much the target database will increase from begin to start of the upgrade, etc.
    • Running Upgrade scripts using Change Assistant for the Initial Pass as well as the test moves. We are done with the Initial Pass and 2 Test Moves. Ran all the scripts and documented the run times for automated as well as manual steps to have a roll-out plan for Go-Live.
    • Tuning the Upgrade app engines to bring down the Go-Live down time to the minimum. Had to work on a few sql’s in the UPG_IN app engine to bring down the run times of Group 4 which was initially running for 30-40 hours in Initial Pass and Test Move 1.
    • Discussed and developed a strategy to run Runstats at suitable times to help the process to run faster.
    • Some import scripts ran longer hence kept an eye online while they were running and made some changes like dropping indexes etc to bring down their run times. Ultimately brought the overall Upgrade run time to an acceptable range so that the down time is just a day apart from the week-end.
    • Working with the users to resolve the defects logged in Mercury. Delegating defects to the team. And helping others resolve their defects.
    • Making sure that the defects are not recurring during the next Move.
    • Developed s strategy to copy all user profiles and passwords and their associated roles from production during Go-Live. Since the MVPRDIMP.dms script will import and replace all the data from the Source during each test Move. This avoided a lot of work by the security analyst to add the new users back into the system manually.(new users added into Production since the Copy of Production was taken and Go-Live).
    • Also created a list of export scripts that need not run on the Go-Live week-end to save time. These export scripts will be run on the source the night before Go-Live and the .dat files will be placed in the data folder. Only the imports will run during Go-Live picking up the .dat files. This eliminates all the time it takes to run the export script. One big one is MVPRDEXP.dms
    • Also developed a script to copy all Tree Data from Production except for the Query tree data. So that production changes need not be tracked and re-applied to the Test Move database or the Target database.
    • Assisting in Performance Tuning. Helping the testing team to create the scripts needed to run.
    • Also developing a strategy to bring down the run times for the Upgrade scripts like increasing the SGA size, allocating more CPU.
    • There were a few defects which were data related and had to be applied after each test Move. Made a list of all those Go-Live fixes and applied it after each test Move.
    • Cash management has a lot of changes between 8.4 and 9.0. Some table structures have changed, some new tables exist in 9.0. The conversion has some issues with bank statements concerning the statement id’s. New bank statement numbers are created with balance entries with the same asofdate. Created scripts to correct the issue so that both transaction and Balance data exist with the same statement number. Ran the scripts in every test Move after the conversion app engines run.
    • Providing weekly status to Governance and management regarding the progress of the project.
    • Trying to establish a good camaraderie within the team by involving anyone, trying to diffuse stress and taking everybody’s suggestions in consideration.
    • Implementing all PMP principles in the project to ensure it’s success.
    • Working with Time Admin issues in 9.0.
    • Applying bundles T&L 6, 7 and 8 to fix major issues.
    • Putting in all the customizations back after the Initial Pass.
    • Putting in the Tax Bundles for testing and to fix some defects in Payroll.
    • Allocating work to the team for the Go-Live week-end.
    • Running the Change Assistant scripts on Go-Live. Ensured that the Go-Live was completed within the Go-Live window.
    • Looked into the Post Go-Live defects and resolved the same in a timely manner by allocating them to the team.
