Software Developer/Tester.
My entire time with IBM was spent on a single software application: a large, complex client/server system designed to generate contract proposals in response to U.S. Federal Government RFP\'s. The system generated proposals, managed the awarded proposals as contracts, and maintained a large database of software/hardware/service product offerings.
Much of the complexity of the application evolved from the necessity of assuring that every product within each proposal complied with a plethora of Federal regulations, such as BAA (Buy American Act), TAA (Trade American Agreement) and NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement).
- First 4 years I served as a software tester (including stint as lead tester during last 8 months of period).
- Last 4 years my primary responsibilities shifted to programming on both client and server sides of the application, utilizing primarily C++ and SQL.
- As my position with IBM evolved, part of my time was spent as a de facto business analyst, working with end users to define and document their needs for add-ons/tweaks to the application (change requests). I was also tasked with writing end user documentation, internal documentation (design reviews), and test cases.
- Black box testing experience:
- Requirements-based functional testing.
- Usability testing.
- Stress testing.
- User acceptance testing (worked with user representatives as they performed acceptance testing of major change releases).
- White box testing experience:
- Unit testing.
- Integration testing.
- Performed a great deal of manual regression testing on a regular basis.
