The Maryland Children Electronic Social Services Information Exchange (MD CHESSIE) is an automated case management tool for child welfare staff throughout the state of Maryland.

The system provides social workers with an interactive system to automate the case record. Includes capabilities to help schedule appointments, generate reminders, print notices, store and access data, issue payments, and monitor availability and compliance of foster and adoptive homes.

I was recruited to this project to support the conversion activity from MVS OS/390 to DB2 UDB on AIX with Power Builder front-end.

  • Designed conversion methodology and achieved 90% accurate data conversion from mainframe system.
  • Written COBOL and JCL programs to interface data between Mainframe system and DB2/AIX system.
  • Used DB2 CONNECT for interface purpose, which interacted with DB2 OS/390 system.
  • Involved in design team to gather requirements, analyze and design for various functional modules.
  • Wrote stored procedures, shell scripts and UDF to implement conversion design. Analyzing and fixing the conversion issues.
  • When DBA not available acted stand by DBA and performed all DBA activities including taking backup, restoring backup to create new environment, EXPORT, LOAD IMPORT and performance tuning etc.
  • Giving full support to development team by writing stored procedures, UDFs, Triggers for various functional modules and creating database objects to support development team, and move them between each environment.

I worked in EDP department which is responsible for all IT related activities including system/network administering and developing applications to support the business in all departments.

Role:
COBOL (MVS OS/390) and JCL with DB2 were used to develop BALPP application. I was involved Design phase onwards.
Maintained small applications and fixed their issues which were running already in various departments developed on Visual Basic / Oracle and Foxpro.

Description:

Developed application (BALPP) which support Production activities including planning. This application gets order information from marketing department and plan production load by considering material stock and manpower availability, and gives planning as daily task, raw material quantity and number of workers needed. Production staff enters daily yield into system and get the adjusted plan accordingly. This application handles till the finished product goes to the warehouse.
