Sr. Programmer Analyst

  • Designed, built, and maintained their most critical system (MC). The MC system controlled purchases based on sales estimates, current purchase orders and in-stock material. It also tracked and provided shipment history for sales, material assignment and purchasing. Some customers also accessed the system. It reduced on hand inventory from an average 2-4 month supply to 1 ½ to 3 month range. Normal lead time for delivery of steel coil being 3 months.
  • When I started with Steel Warehouse they used an HP3000 and Image database to support 3 operational sites. For the last 3 years we used IBM AIX (Unix) servers and Oracle to support over 10 operational sites. Software was converted from HP to AIX. Code is a mix of Cobol and report writer/ file generator software and PL/SQL.
  • As part of the conversion to AIX process I selected and installed the change management software (Serena Changeman) and report generation software(Actuate). I also wrote many of the test scripts used to test the converted code, then later ran them to test the system.
  • Prior to conversion, I had set up Access databases and extraction, FTP, and PC processes that automatically refreshed them nightly from the live database. These Access databases contained most of the live data excluding audit files and were then used for ad hoc reports that in some cases became production reports.
  • Added fields and tables as needed to Oracle 9i databases. Extracted and modified data on the database with Toad and SQL as well as imbedding SQL in Cobol code via Accucobol options.
  • I was also part of the Help Desk rotation for this system. With a department of less than 10 people, this meant covering all levels and often providing support for the problems as they occurred.
