PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Confidential, Oct 2010-present
IT and Management consulting
- As part of the “Optimization Center of Excellence” group worked on two of our staple optimization projects
- Simultaneously worked on both, meeting every deadline while maintaining high standards.
Consultant for Confidential, Jan-Oct 2010
Implementation of new functional features for our firm’s publishing software while also providing production support. Written in C++ using .NET framework, the code interfaces with C# & XML files and utilizes input from 2 other servers.
- The mathematical model written by Princeton Consultants for Dow Jones books and positions ads, calculates newspaper size, sets page color and creates the section and page layout for the WSJ and other NewsCorp publications taking into account the limited printing capabilities of their printing plants.
- A critical tool for their overall advertising sales-marketing-inventory-layout-billing system, it maximizes profits and cuts costs by increasing the number of ads and decreasing page space used.
- Developed key enhancements to the software, which enable the national and each local edition of the WSJ to be printed with different configurations of color placement.
- Specifically, they allow the New York and other regional editions to have additional color pages and facilitate the booking of more local and regional color ads thereby greatly increasing revenue (as much as $175,000 per page for each incremental color ad) and capabilities. They also aim to provide vital support for the 150 million dollars worth overhaul of NewsCorp’s printing presses.
- Successfully improved the runtime performance and efficiency of the code using effective multi-threading.
- Single handedly responsible for the design, development, execution and overall management of the project as well as providing hands-on production support to end-users, while working closely with clients.
- Received commendations from client for delivering a solid build in a short time frame despite challenges
Consultant for Confidential, May-Oct 2010
Modification of the current mathematical model for our firm’s airline scheduling software. Built using JAVA and Oracle this system is part of an optimization model based on integer programming. It interfaces with xml files and has UIs written in C# that use a layer of juggernet to communicate with the servers.
‘Risk and Robustness’
- Our firm’s three tools optimally assign aircrafts and crew members to service flights and create a schedule for NetJets’s entire fleet of private jets. It also finds recoveries in real time when aircraft failures occur, while minimizing service impact to owners and costs to NetJets.
- Working in a team of three developed a mathematical formula to quantify and model risk in their flight schedule. Took a lead role in the initial research, analysis and design of the formula.
- In the 2nd phase of the project, developing a mathematical model and a corresponding computational algorithm to create more robust schedules. This involves calculating the recoverability of flights as the model is being built, adding a risk cost and then optimizing against it to obtain schedules with more recoverable flights. Playing a key role in developing the initial strategy and implementation plan.
- Finished designing an additional interface to the existing GUI in 1/3rd of the allotted time.
- Also, in-charge of providing production-level support for the recovery tool and training new support staff
