Unique rules for Goldman Sachs’ employee plans (GEE and GPP) are supported as non-standard on the TA book of records. Specifically, lot level acquisition date and cost are tracked, and sales and inquiry by shareholders is through ESS, a custom application for GS online inquiry and transaction processing for active employees. This application is available for employees via a single sign-on from Goldman’s Employee Compensation website.
Since the GS stock price has been climbing, both parties find it advantageous to explore the split requirements for GS at this time. This is done by following the below approach
- Customize the stock split to support “one for one” split lots with incremental fields to capture new data.
Special stock split processing, will apply to the GEE and GPP cusips. The G10 cusip, which is the common stock cusip, will follow a “business as usual” standard stock split. The process will leverage on the existing cost basis stock split process.

As a result of the post mortem reviews from the 2004 Tax Season, there had been some remediation work introduced into the production environment. However, the remediations were not sufficient to address issues that continually impede operating efficiencies and control points. These on-going weaknesses place MIS at risk not only through “Tax Season” but throughout the processing year.
During the 2005 tax season a number of issues were encountered with the various stages of 1099 production. The current 1099 processes are manually extensive and contain inconsistencies. The Tax Department does not have an accurate method of reconciling the 1099s at various handoff points. Validations fall short when performing any comparisons of 1099s that are distributed to the shareholder population versus those that are entitled to receive a 1099.
The databases and system applications that maintain shareholder records contain inconsistencies and at times provide conflicting information with regard to the population that is selected to receive a 1099 versus the population that is bypassed. Shareholders that change their account characteristics or status, during the 4th quarter are at risk of not receiving a 1099.
The objective of this project is to address issues captured during the 2004 & 2005 Tax Seasons Post Mortems

The new Open Item database, the current KCODE will be replaced by the new Kmart Stock Number (KSN). In addition, there will be a unique 8 digit number assigned to each KSN/Shipping Configuration combination ordered into the DC. This will be known as the KSN Pack ID (KSNPID) and will become the DC product. The DC product header and detail tables will become a one-to-one relationship replacing the current product id with KSNPID. Additional changes will be made to the product auxiliary header table to add new fields for KSN, Pick Type, and Commodity Flash Point. Where there is currently only one configuration for a given KCODE, the KSN and KSNPID will become the KCODE number and will not have any impact on the DC’s. However, where multiple details exist, a new number will be assigned for the KSNPID for some of the details. A conversion process will be needed in the DC to convert the original product/detail to the new KSNPID throughout the entire system. In addition, we will need to identify any inventory in the DC for product details that are not represented on the Open Item database and develop a process for how to deal with them.
The system would migrate from AIM IMS database to new open item DB2 database. The current KCODE will change to the KSN or KSN pack id according to the needs of the interfacing applications. The significance of the Kmart stock number (KSN) is that within an item there are grouping of retail markings #‘s that are so similar looking that they must be counted the same: yet each individual KSN is visually distinguishable that the store would be able to count them separately. The usage of KSN helps Kmart in keeping track of the accountability factor for all the variety of products sold.
