As a Soft-Train Consultant, supporting the LACOE Payroll/HR System Migration implementation project, on their IBM / Z/OS / MVS System, Client-Server, using eCOBOL / CICS / DB2 / HTML programming debugging skills. LACOE' s payroll systems have never missed a payroll cycle and they pay all District teacher, retiree and staff payrolls (not covered by the LAUSD District).

  • Primary duties include: resolution of documented issues (thru their reporting system) occurring on their newly upgraded/converted CICS / eCOBOL / DB2 / HTML, HR and Payroll Systems. These issues typically involve navigational or functional problems, in these CICS/eCOBOL programs and often involved weekly meetings with departmental staff from Student Financial Services Division and HRMS staff (using CALPERS data), to gather incident details or incident specification corrections. Frequent emails between Expert Users and User Acceptance teams were used to notify completion of these incident reports. This migration project involved a Bull System using VSAM files, to an IBM Z/OS mainframe using DB2/CICS/HTML interfaces via IP Server and Intranet portal. The HRMS system was written by INTEGRAL for both the Bull legacy system and the upgraded for the IBM/ZOS platform.
  • Assigned tasks on the Credential System and related state download files. Produced a set of CICS/eCOBOL/HTML programs accessing new DB2 data (Archive tables) and sending HTML screens, to replace microfiche. Created DB2 load programs using the newly expanded State Credential download file via the State website. Helped to eliminate microfiche viewers, microfiche service and freed shared office space for the microfiche equipment. Met weekly with the Credential System management to demo new programs, gather specifications and requirements, and receive feedback or user acceptance of newly implemented programs. Gained/improved experience using: SCLM, WINSQL, DEBUGGER.
  • Some knowledge-based cross training occurred since most of LACOE' s staff is Bull Systems based.
