PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

Confidential,

  • (PT W2) Cincinnati, OH Aug 2007 - Present

Instructor/Researcher/Data Analyst
The University of Cincinnati (UC) is a research oriented university. During my Ph.D. program, I taught eight management courses (strategic management, organizational behavior, family business, and an independent study); and I engaged in significant governance (i.e., top management teams and boards) research, which resulted in one publication (Journal of Management Studies) and two conference presentations (SMS - Rome 2010 and AMR - Chicago 2009). As part of my research process, I engaged in extensive data collection, aggregation, and analysis.

    • I analyzed and aggregated numerous flat file Excel workbooks from BoardEx, Compustat, Execucomp, and Audit Analytics, utilizing VBA, Macros, Pivot Tables, etc. I utilized Excel Reports to share important data with colleagues. I built Excel applications (i.e., data forms, sub forms, controls, etc.) that allowed research colleagues to more easily retrieve subsets of cross-sectional and longitudinal data for related governance projects.
    • For larger Excel files (i.e., 100,000 + records per sheet, with multiple sheets per workbook), I utilized SQL Server DTS to import this data intoSQL Server 2008 R2. I used T-SQL (i.e., inner, outer, and other joins, sub, nested, and recursive queries, cursors, stored procedures, views, normalized and de-normalized data, control statements, cursors, and more) to clean, manipulate, and transform files into more meaningful data.
    • I created an Excel application that checked fortune 500 and biopharmaceutical industrySEC documents(over a 20 year period), in MS Word format, for a variety of research criteria (i.e., names, ages, demographic data, board info, etc.), by utilizing OLE automation and regular expressions.
    • I analyzed, cleaned, and aggregated data using various statistical techniques (i.e. OLS, negative binomial regression, and hypothesis testing) through SPSS.

Children’s Hospital focuses on pediatric health care, research, and education. I redesignedan Access database that hospital employees use to manage patients.

    • I updated data access functionality, where appropriate, by transitioning data bound controls and forms to unbound controls and forms, so that the client would have more fine-tuned control of database select, insert, and update needs.
    • I updated/added additional user forms (with appropriate sub forms and controls) for additional needed functionality.
    • I provided reporting functionality to users.
    • I retooled the backend (normalized for reduced redundancy and faster/more appropriate future changes).

Viking Technology (later subsumed by PEC Solutions, and then Nortel) specialized in the Federal Information Technology market, specifically designing custom, enterprise level, n-tier software for Fire, Police, and EMS departments in California. I developed/updated front end interfaces, middle tier Active-X objects (i.e., separate business logic and data access DLLs), and backend database needs (i.e., database design, stored procedures, etc.) utilizing Visual Basic 6 (VB6), ADO, COM and DCOM, SQL Server 7,Crystal Reports, and related technologies.

    • I wrote/edited numerous middle tier business logic Active-X components (i.e., in process DLLs and out of process EXEs, depending on the need, using Visual Basic 6).

    • I built a bar scanner interface for the Police application.
    • I updated various SQL Server 7 databases -- tables, fields, primary keys, foreign keys, index changes, stored procedures and triggers (inner, outer, and other joins, sub, nested, and recursive queries, cursors, transactions, flow of control statements, etc.).
    • I designed and maintained front end forms, controls, etc. that relied upon built in Visual Basic objects, Windows API, and 3rd party APIs.
