Synopsis
I have been a contract database developer since January 1998. Projects include stand-alone Microsoft Access databases and Access databases with SQL Server or Oracle as backend. A few have also been Visual Basic executable front-end with Access/SQL backend. I have worked in many business sectors including manufacturing and sales but specialize in the health care sector including pharmaceutical, clinical-trial management, hospital PI performance improvements, etc. I am a Microsoft Partner Program Registered Member.

- Self-employed contract programmer specializing in Microsoft Access. Clients include retailers, manufacturers, rep firms, warranty companies, and hospitals and clinical trial organizations.

- NOW AudioVideo. Administered Tyler Retail Systems point-of-sale system on HP-UNIX and internal Windows network. Responsible for all company IT, telecom needs. Created all custom programming for the company including payroll, accounting, advertising, and warehouse. Provided software support for all Microsoft Office components and custom software apps.
Employee Database Experience
- Examples of prior database experience are listed below. In all cases I was solely responsible for entire design process including: reviewing any current processes client was using interviewing SMEs and representatives from any third parties involved to review their requirements designing all database objects and security writing any VBA code required resolving software/hardware incompatibility problems during installation and operation maintaining database objects when ODBC connections or output specification were updated by their vendors. First five sections are examples of projects that I created while an employee of NOW AudioVideo. Others sections with Client name were created while working as a contract programmer from 1998 present.
- 08/1983 - 12/1997 Now AudioVideo - Track results of physical inventories to SKU level for all retail, warehouse, and custom divisions. Provided weekly/monthly analysis to CEO for division manager reviews and to Controller for updating GL for inventory shrinkage.
- 08/1983 - 12/2004 Now AudioVideo Process third party submittals when not possible with existing applications. Programmed POS system to output text files which were read by Access ODBC connection to produce reports on sales of DirecTV systems and AON Extended warranties and the products they covered. DB has to produce output to meet specifications provided by third party and be capable of comparing invoice to submittal to located discrepancies.
- 08/1983 - 12/2004 Now AudioVideo Create direct mailing custom database using ODBC link to sales history files and allow highly-directed customer selection for specialized promotions. Output had to meet specifications provided by each mailing house. Once promotion concluded, db was capable of examining purchases during promotion period and generating reports for VP to analyze success of promotion based pre-defined customer groups.
- 08/1983 - 12/2004 Now AudioVideo Create custom database for Service Department Manager to analyze performance of technicians. DB linked to their service repair detail files to calculate number of units repaired, repair turnaround time, re-repair rate, revenue generated, and percentage of work orders that required part order and/or estimate.
- 08/1983 - 12/2004 Now AudioVideo Created accounting application with built-in time clock to completely process weekly payroll. The payroll calculation client required was too complex for their POS system to handle. DB linked to sales detail files in POS system to calculate commission and bonuses for all salespersons and managers. Time clock feature allowing calculation of hourly employees pay as well. Once calculations were complete, the db would 1 create a file to upload to Ceridian payroll system for direct deposit and 2 translate a summary file received back from Ceridian to update client's General Ledger files.
- 06/1998 01/2002 - Freedom Stores client migrated from Tyler Retail Systems to Storis POS system. Project included writing custom reports on Tyler system to extract data, db verification of data to tie out detail to header/file-to-file totals, conversion to Storis specifications for import into their system.
- Confidential - UNC Hospitals Trauma Department Create and maintain a database to link their FoxPro-based NTRACS system to produce Performance Improvement and Trauma Registry reports that must be turned into the state on a monthly or quarterly basis in order to remain certified as a Level I trauma center. Report specs provided by government agencies or internal review committees. Created an ICECI database for their NC Burn Center to track external causes/circumstances of burn injuries for ABA reporting and internal analysis for age/cultural/etc trending. Created a Trauma Diversion database to track/report on Adult and Pediatric diversions.
- Confidential - Thomson Dialog Corp Financial Analyst position to support and improve database functionality used for monthly revenue reporting processing for management. Interfaces with Oracle subscription database. Output results to MS PowerPoint monthly sales reviews.
- Confidential - Duke University Medical Center Trauma Department Create and maintain a database to link their FoxPro-based NTRACS system to produce Performance Improvement and Trauma Registry reports that must be turned into the state on a monthly or quarterly basis in order to remain certified as a Level I trauma center. - Confidential - Nexans/Bert-Tek Create and maintain a raw materials control database used to calculate raw material loss as a finished wire product flows through its various manufacturing processes. Corrected an existing Access 97 database that had problems with screen displays vs. printout and basic form designs. Implemented a new module to back calculate due date for each step in a manufacturing process to determine if production is on schedule. Also determine run hours per day for each work center to see if current ship promised dates will cause over utilization of a machine. Created module to plan machine daily schedule based on order promise date and estimated time to complete steps in manufacturing process.

Compares clinical trial history, review boards, key opinion leaders, and disease specialties for Institutions, Physicians, and Assistants to help choose appropriateness for inclusion in upcoming trials. Contact Log tracks date, person contacted, contacted by employee, compound and study, outcome of contact, and reminder flags. Created a Clinical Trial Management System to track trials, documentation, site personnel Principal Investigators, CRO, etc , drug lot inventory and shipping, study/site budget, subject and site status.
- Confidential - DSM Pharmaceuticals Created a custom CSL Customer Service Level Scorecard to calculate a customer service score based on On-time, In-full Shipment Percentages, Returns, Rejects, APRs, Complaints Past Due, and Past Due Audit Items. Analyze by customer, brand, company division, etc.
- Confidential - Genworth Financial Upgraded the Underwriter Training database to automate new student additions/updates by allowing import of Excel files instead of manually keying in data. Produces monthly reports for management. Upgraded the Forecast Expenses database to automate data input thru file importation instead of manual entry and output monthly reports. Created Time Log Reporting database to interact with Underwriter time clock to allow calculation and reporting of mortgage processing counts/times/averages based on what processes involved with the loan.
- Confidential - Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina Created a Sales Assessment Tool to allow managers to evaluate and report on their employees' competencies in strategic sales areas. Evaluations converted from text choices to numeric values for mathematical analysis and comparison to peers in their same department/segment/region/job role/job title. Enhanced an existing ICALL database used to manage underwriting phone interview requests from potential health insurance applicants.
- Confidential - Upgraded existing tracking software to improve management of subject data including SAE reporting to Regulatory Agencies, tracking incoming communication by phone, fax, email, etc, producing metrics reports.
- Confidential - Active Healthcare Created a database to track referrals for patients. Includes general patient information and referral information. Referral information includes document tracking, patient contact, insurance information, units and services dispensed with transaction ticket printing, sleep study and therapy notes. Prints dispensing/follow-up letters for physicians. Integrates with phone system to auto-dial patients for appointment reminders.
- Confidential - Be Active Kids Created a database with SQL Server source to track all data handling training events, provider training events, incentive reward program, certification dates, inventory kit mailing, and monthly reporting.

- Confidential - Baptist Medical Center Trauma Department - Create and maintain a database to link their Advantage Server-based NTRACS system to produce Performance Improvement and Trauma Registry reports that must be turned into the state on a monthly or quarterly basis in order to remain certified as a Level I trauma center. Report specs provided by government agencies or internal review committees. NTRACS outputs XML files which are processed using XSLT by Xalan parser, Ruby, and Access.
