- I joined the Forsythe Migration Team at Blue Cross in an effort to move 200 LPARs off of legacy P5 and P6 frames to new IBM P7 frames.
- We utilized several methods of migration depending on resource configuration on the LPARs.
- We used a combination of these methods: SAN disk replication mksysb restore live partition mobility LPM .
- For some servers running AIX5.3 we included a NIMADM process to upgrade the mksysb image to AIX 7.1 then installed the new 7.1 image onto the new hardware.
- We averaged 4 to 12 migration per day depending on size of boot disk and data disks to replicate.
- The whole process is tested and documented for each type of migration.
