| Confidential Public Administration Relevant Coursework, Licenses and Certifications: The course component of the degree included classes in regional planning, urban studies, geovisualization and mapping techniques, and statistical analysis. The program also offered weekly seminars that covered a range of topics from GIS applications to the impacts of climate change. My thesis examined the relationship between access to natural amenity features and population density and density change in suburban Chicago, and concluded that patterns of recent population growth have been less influenced by natural features than they were 20 years ago. The study utilized block-level population data from the US Census Bureau, land use data from the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning CMAP , and transportation data from the City of Chicago GIS Warehouse, among other sources. ArcGIS 10.1 and SAS Statistical Software were used for data preparation, analysis, and map making. The secondary class concentration was largely within the field of Public Administration, and included courses in Human Resource Management, IT Projects in Public Administration. In addition, I participated in a Study Abroad program through the Public Administration department to Tanzania in Summer 2011 to learn more about the Role of Non-Government Organizations in the Developing World. In addition to meeting with various local and international NGOs to learn about their work, I conducted an independent project related to my geography major to assess the role of GIS in Tanzania. As part of the study, I interviewed local municipal leaders, and later obtained Tanzanian census data to carry out a basic analysis of the population centers in the Mara Region.
