- Team lead for 3 local System Engineers and 4 off shore System Administrators in India responsible for the implementation and administration of 900 Linux and 100 AIX OS installations. As team lead, responsible for schedule, performance reviews, mentoring and training. Acted as final point of escalation for all Production issues as well as worked 24/7 on-call support.
- Researched and presented Puppet Enterprise solution for automation of server maintenance to upper management. Have installed and configured for entire Unix/Linux environment. Have acquired funding and in progress of implementation of Puppet Enterprise solution. Created over 20 new Puppet Modules to install and maintain servers. Some of the bigger modules were for SSH, NTP, NetBackup and required users. Puppet Enterprise allows us to automate the installation and configuration of new servers as well as ensuring that the image remains consistent on all current servers. Configuration changes are monitored and secured against unwanted changes.
- Spear headed the Red Hat Satellite implementation from presentation of the technology to upper management through installation, configuration and documentation on usage for building new servers, patching existing servers and pushing server configurations out to multiple server sets. This enabled the limited number of administrators to maintain current OS installations with patching to pass both SOX and PCI audits.
- Lead Engineer on MapR project. This project brought in the new technology stack of MapR and Hadoop to provide the ability to perform business function on large amounts of live data. Using MapR also provided large savings on storage moving from large enterprise SAN solutions to much cheaper local storage spread across multiple servers. Storage savings alone was estimated at 75 with no loss of availability or redundancy.
- Developed automation to increase productivity for common administrative duties such as user creation, SAN volume scanning, and the creation of Oracle ASM disks so that multiple systems could be configured simultaneously. This resulted in increased productivity as well as reduced time to go live.
- Lead the upgrade and implementation of the PowerBroker utility from version 3 to version 7.0. This upgrade corrected multiple security vulnerabilities as well as adding new functionality that provided higher productivity by enabling administrators to run scripted solutions on sets of servers instead of having to log onto one server at a time.
- Developed system imaging procedures utilizing Puppet Enterprise and VMWare to speed deployment of new server OS's.
- Installed and evaluated new products such as Puppet Enterprise, Red Hat Satellite, MapR with Hadoop, PowerBroker 7.0, Red Hat Storage, CentOS, and OpenVZ.
