Confidential Associate Manager ECFMG, Medical Practitioner's Licensing System VB, Oracle, PL/SQL, COM/DCOM, Exchange, MTS The makeup of the body of medical practitioners changes every day. From new doctors, transfers from state to state and transfers of foreign practitioners into the U.S., the issuance and management of licenses to practice medicine is a complex task. One of the most complicated details of the system lied in the diversity of educational, language and residency requirements in each state. This diversity of requirements had caused previous attempts to create a unified system to fail. This system enabled largely automatic processing of licensing applications by succeeding where those other attempts failed the implementation of an easily modifiable rules based engine. This reduced the demand on the expert staff and enabled those staffers to focus their attention on problem resolutions rather than day-to-day processing.
Confidential Mortgage Service Data Warehouse/Data Mart VB, SQL Server, FoxPro, E-Commerce, IIS, ASP Loan portfolios are an investment that is bought up by various investment banking firms. The customer managed the thousands of individual loans and the day-to-day transactions, but was lacking an efficient vehicle to report portfolio performance data back to the investment banks that own the portfolios. This system rolled up millions of transactions and activites collected from various systems into a data warehouse and enabled periodic performance analysis available to the investors via an Extranet web interface. In addition, this system allowed on-line and drill-down analysis of available portfolios so that investment-banking house could make informed buying decisions before committing to the purchase on-line. Warehouse Automation Inventory System VC , VB, E-Commerce, IIS, SQL Server, ASP, COM/DCOM, RF, EDI In a warehouse with thousands of parts and inventory items, knowing just what all those parts and inventory items are is only half the battle. When orders are placed, those items must be shipped quickly, so it must be known precisely where in the warehouse that the sold item is located. In addition, the sold item must be marked as sold to prevent overselling and track replenishment needs. This system enabled the customer to automate these processes, reduce paperwork and cost, web-enable the administration of the warehouse, and automate replenishment orders with suppliers. REO Management Tool VB, IIS, Oracle, PL/SQL, E-Commerce, ASP, COM/DCOM, Exchange, Wang Imaging There are hundreds of documents associated with a single piece of real estate, and the customer owned thousands of properties. Management of the thousands of inquiries on the contents of original documents in Real Estate Owned REO was a time-consuming and staff-intensive task. The introduction of this imaging system automated the management of these documents and enabled the large staff devoted to the management of REO to turn their attention to more productive tasks. MCI Telecommunications, Project Control System VB, Oracle, PL/SQL, COM/DCOM, Mainframe Integration, Microstation, EDI This major telecommunications customer must manage hundreds of thousands of connections, circuits and switches to operate their ever-expanding worldwide communications infrastructure. To accomplish the task of expanding the network capacity, thousands of parts must be ordered and hundreds of technicians must be managed. The technician's time is a valuable asset, so the parts must be at the switching station ready for upgrade or installation when the technician arrives. Management of these thousands of projects required many systems to work together, including the external systems of trading partners. The number of systems involved introduced many points of failure until this system tied it all together. Customer Benefits Marketing Systems VB, IIS, SQL Server, ASP, COM/DCOM, Mainframe Integration The customer managed the data for consumer award systems like Friends Family and Advantage , but the call centers that handled the thousands of inquiries were not able to promptly answer all the questions put to them. For many matters, a flag was entered on a mainframe system, which generated a follow-up letter containing the requested information. This web interface to the core mainframe data, made available to the call centers via an Intranet, enabled instant responses to the inquiries and made for a more satisfied customer. Inventory Sales Tracking System VB, PICK, FoxPro, COM/DCOM, IIS, ASP The customer, a major supplier of new and used parts for major air carriers, has warehouses all over the world each managed separately. This made it difficult for the centralized inside sales force to fulfill orders and inquire on inventory. The process was to take the order and find a warehouse with the part by phone. If the part could not be located, it was ordered which usually meant delayed shipment and an unhappy customer. This system enabled real-time inquiry via an Intranet web interface to the PICK databases around the globe, while the customer was placing the order. Western Geophysical, Seismic Analysis Storage Data Warehouse Java, Oracle, PL/SQL, Netscape Server The customer stores terabytes of seismic, sonic and infrared raw data on thousands of DAT and 9-Track tapes. When a customer would have a requirement for data on a particular location, the requested tape would be retrieved and the raw data loaded for interpretation by various scientific analysis applications that would generate the required information. This was a tedious process that was streamlined by a custom VLDB database architecture. The raw data was retrieved via a Java interface and made available instantly to the interpretive applications. Well Production Management VB, E-Commerce, IIS, ASP, SQL Server, COM/DCOM, Exchange The customer managed the production of thousands of active wells across the U.S. Fluctuations in oil prices necessitate that the barrel production decrease or increase. This process was working too slowly. This system allowed the customer to instantly query on production for all of the wells and adjust the production of those wells within a day as oil prices dictated. International Exploration Data Warehouse Netscape Server, Java Script, Java, Oracle, PL/SQL The customer searches for new oil fields and manages hundreds of active exploration projects all over the globe. The results of that exploration were kept in hundreds of paper files, E-mail, spreadsheets and other disjointed systems. This system brought all of that data together, simplified the management, reduced costs and made analysis of the results more efficient via a web interface delivered over a worldwide Intranet. Materials Management Regulatory Compliance System VB, SQL Server, COM/DCOM, Exchange The government regulations pertaining to hazardous materials and chemicals are overwhelming. Precise quantities and locations must be known for all materials, certain materials cannot be stored in the same facility with other materials, the specifics of the containers must be on file for each material, emergency procedures must be kept for each different material, the precise chemical make-up must be known for each material, and the list goes on and on. This system linked the plants and storage facilities enabling enhanced management and safety, and dramatically simplified the government reporting requirements. Call Center Quality Tracking System VB, SQL Server, COM/DCOM, Exchange, Real Time Voice Processing In a call center with over 300 customer service representatives, handling over 8,000 calls per day, quality assurance of those calls becomes a major problem. All the calls cannot be monitored, nor is it feasible to record all of them. Our client was tackling this problem by randomly recording service calls, which would later be forwarded to a quality analyst via cassette tape. There were a variety of scores and grades that would be rendered against the randomly sampled recordings, all recorded on paper and routed to the manager of the representative to whom the grade impacted. The largest gap between what our client had and what they wanted is that is would sometimes take 6 to 12 weeks to correct grossly deficient call handling and the paper records made it difficult to plot quality trends throughout the organization. This system enabled complete on-lin, real-tim sampling of customer service callas, immediate routing of grades to management and representatives, and effective management of long-term quality improvement with its robust reporting features. VarTec Telecom, Circuit Connection Analysis Data Warehouse VB, SQL Server, FoxPro, E-Commerce, IIS, ASP, COM/DCOM, VB Script The customer was a regional long distance carrier, 1 dialing toll operator and pre-paid phone card provider who leases voice bandwidth from a larger supplier's voice network. Faced with the difficult challenge of reconciling bandwidth usage statements, multiple vendor contracts and an expanding customer base, a means of tracking connections and effectively routing calls through the most cost-effective circuits was a paramount concern. The row data was available periodically, but the means to analyze and recognize trends were not. This data warehouse project brought all of the connection data into a consolidated Intranet interface and enabled more effective proactive management of call routing, trend analysis, and, most importantly, increased margins. Long Distance Toll Customer Data Warehouse VB, SQL Server, E-Commerce, IIS, ASP, COM/DCOM, VB Script In the information age, the maxim is that effective analysis of available customer information enables identification of additional customer needs, preemption of negative trends and boosts to positive trends. For this customer, a wealth of customer information was available in a variety of disjointed mediums. It was believed that bringing this customer information together would enable answers to questions about what markets are most effectively penetrated and why customers have switched to and from the customer's services. This data warehouse project that rolled up all available customer information into a single interactive web-enabled analysis tool delivered via an Intranet, proved the maxim to be true. Warehouse Management Automation System VB, E-Commerce, IIS, SQL Server, ASP, COM/DCOM, VB Script, Exchange The customer had to deal with over 500,000 in warehouse inventory turnover every day. Managing the incoming and outgoing items and the warehouse staff necessary for that business volume had outpaced our client's ability to efficiently run their warehouse operations. The required the ability to forecast and schedule their warehouse manpower in addition to automating order fulfillment and warehouse restocking. This system met their requirements and raised automatic supplier requisitions via E-mail and other business process improvements that had not been previously considered. Asset Tracking System VB, SQL Server, E-Commerce, IIS, ASP, COM/DCOM, VB Script, Exchange The customer had thousands of assets, totaling over 25 Billion. From office furniture to loan pools, each asset needed to be tracked. Previous to the implementation of this system were various systems tracking different types of assets at different locations. Through the use of a barcode labeled asset tag and an asset numbering system, this system delivered the ability to do broad asset searches via an Intranet. From doing reports on certain types of assets to locating a particular unit of furniture, this system was critical to a number of departments. The accounting department's efforts to more effectively manage depreciation and take advantage of tax deductions, the executive office's efforts to prepare for a recently completed merger, the loan departments' efforts to negotiate better loan pool purchase agreements, and many other aspects of this customer's business were positively impacted by the implementation of this system.
Confidential Chief Architect/Project Mngr. Premium Ware, Premium Audit Collection System VB, VC , SQL Server, Oracle, PL/SQL, Sybase, E-Commerce, HTML, CGI, COM/DCOM, Exchange, EDI General liability and Property and Casualty premium rating and collections is a complicated business compounded by hundreds of thousands of customers. Each of those customers goes through a variety of changes every year, complicating the matter further. Various policies are selected for audit at expiration, and previous to this system's introduction, this was an extremely intensive paper-laden activity. Policies were copied and mailed to field auditors, auditors created various spreadsheets detailing the audit which were then mailed back to the insurance company for review, audits requiring further examination were mailed back to the field for update the paper bounced back and forth for months, delaying collection. This system completely automated this task and aided our client in tracking and collecting these premiums. Thomson Corp., Supply Chain Requisition Invoicing System Confidential The customer's business is wholesaling high-volume specialty retail items, but a large portion of their expenses were tied to ordering from suppliers, paying the invoices and billing their customer. This system allowed our client to inter-operate with their suppliers and customers via EDI for dramatically reduced costs. Optic Solutions, Sales Order Shipping Management System E-Commerce, Netscape Server, CGI, Perl, Scripting The customer was the U.S. point of contact for numerous high-tech items from foreign suppliers. Our client's customers were sales groups who sold the items to retail stores. Much of the staff's activities revolved around taking orders from customers and answering shipping questions. This system enabled the customers to log in via an Extranet to place their orders and track the shipping on those orders, dramatically reducing the load on the staff. Traveler's Insurance, Broker Commissions Management System VB, SQL Server, E-Commerce, Netscape Server, Scripting, MS Mail Computing commissions on sales of insurance policies is a complicated endeavor even when aided by spreadsheets and mainframe computers, as was the case with our client. Add to that a tiered commission structure, monthly incentive programs, quarterly bonus plans, commission reversals and rebates it required an entire department to manage the commission payments, up to two weeks to get simple inquiries answered and typically two months to get any type of disparity resolved. This system enabled on-the-fly commissions computation with a drill-down web interface delivered via an Intranet. The system's implementation enabled the entire department to move on and do more productive work within the company, and please the insurance agents who could now answer their own inquires via the Intranet and talk with a single person if a disparity were to be found. Aetna, Premium Control System VB, SQL Server, E-Commerce, IIS, ASP, COM/DCOM, Scripting Various state insurance boards govern insurance premiums through a complicated classification system. Each type of employee is governed by a different class code. Throughout the term of any insurance policy, an insured company will undergo many changes in salaries, exposures, units and class codes. As companies change, and notify their agent, the agent will submit these changes to an insurance carrier to determine premium rate changes. As the regulations pertaining to insurance premiums change constantly within each state, agents were consistently behind the curve in notifying clients of premium changes. This system made those changes available real-time and allowed for better service for the customer's insured companies.
