Sr. Micro Analyst

In my three years at Confidential I have been an intergral part of the Network engineering team. I have primary responsibilities for our internet proxy servers, NetScaler load balancers, and our external DNS and certificate infrastructure. In the last six months I have also taken on a administration role for our Cisco ASA firewalls. From a network perspective I am the go to person for layers 5, 6, and 7. I am also the go to resource for problem solving. Whenever there is an issue and no one else can figure it out it comes to me. 9 times out of 10 I figure it out and resolve the problem. I have also assisted with the impending healthcare reform from an IT readiness perspective and have been heavily involved in growing additional lines of business at Arkansas Blue Cross Blue Shield where we offer BPO and SaaS solutions to medical offices throughout the state.

Systems Engineering

  • My transition into Systems Engineering came with an enterprise infrastructure upgrade starting in 2007. The facilities server and network infrastructure was upgraded from whitebox tower servers mostly Nobilis and low-end network equipment to enterprise IBM servers with a DS4800 SAN backbone with redundant fibre switches. We also deployed the complete VMware VI3 suite and replaced our network infrastructure with a redundant network topology utilizing Cisco equipment. Seven Netbay 42 racks were deployed in our server room and we racked and stacked all the servers that went in them.
  • We were hands on for every step of the process
  • Unboxing and racking the new equipment
  • Datacenter cabling adding network ports, running patch panels to server racks, etc.
  • Redundant network cabling Orange, Green, Blue
  • HVAC and Power calculations
  • After the majority of the hardware deployments were finished, we migrated our imaging business onto the new platform and shifted gears into an operations role. We utilized McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator, WSUS, and IBM Director in the upkeep of that environment. A fully functioning VMware VI3 platform was also installed.
  • In 2008 I was asked to move to Charlotte North Carolina, where I took over primary responsibility of the datacenter there. That move shifted my focus from supporting the imaging operation in Hot Springs to supporting a hosting repository operation. As I moved, so did the infrastructure upgrade train. My experience in Hot Springs was instrumental to my success in Charlotte. I deployed and configured four 8000 Series SUN Blade Centers, three 6000 series SUN Blade Centers, an EMC SAN with EDL and NAS head, and two SUN v445 SPARC systems. I also set up and configured VMware VI3 in the Charlotte datacenter. I was responsible for increasing the datacenter capacity adding network ports, HVAC planning, etc to support the new equipment.
  • I also worked with our pre-sales team in the architecture, design and costing of potential deals. I had to design the hardware platform, cost its components, and determine which was the best licensing model to implement in order to maximize cost savings.
  • My other primary role within Xerox for the past two-and-a-half years has been as a key member of the Xerox Infrastructure Deployment and Support team
  • In this role I am responsible for deploying new solutions into production. This involves building the environment in our development and staging areas first, so that install and testing of the application can be performed, with the build and production deployment to follow.
  • From a support perspective, I have been the go to guy for crisis response since I first transitioned into Systems Engineering.
  • In mid 2009 I moved back to Hot Springs Arkansas. In doing so my role changed again. I now support both the imaging and hosting operations for Xerox Global Services. This has been key for the business as most contracts have components in both lines of business, and having a support person who has lived and breathed both is a huge plus. I was also tasked with implementing enterprise wide monitoring and alerting. This involves mapping out the workflow for each specific client and identifying the infrastructure that supports it and its weak points. I then use Host Monitor from KS-Soft to monitor and alert on the status of weak points for all three major XGS locations Hot Springs AR, Gates NY, and Charlotte NC and all major lines of XGS business.
